    When someone leaves me a voice mail I don't get a notification saying I have one. I get a pop up from Verizon asking me to set up visual voice mail. Am I missing something here. Also, I thought that from my home screen I could just start typing, ie, email Tom and it would open an email to type.

    Did you try clearing your inbox manually and then trying to send yourself a voicemail to see if your phone drew a new alert?
