Well apparently BlackBerry confirmed today with their 10.2 Gold event that Miracast will not be supported on the Z10, only WiFi Direct. I'm done being an early adopter with this company. First the PlayBook debacle, and now I bought a 1 year plus old phone (Z10 was obviously meant to release last summer) as soon as it was available in the US and 4 months later it is already not going to get features that the fracking Q10 has?!?! You mean to tell me in all that time that you didn't have the Z10 on the market you couldn't update the WiFi chip to a current one? Really ridiculous and a total RIM move! Guess they didn't learn from the Storm1.

Nice, my Z10 device is out of date, newer than most Androids, but older in tech terms.

It's a shame, the OS is really good, but I can't keep supporting a company that cuts corners, doesn't give its best, has no consistency throughout multiple devices. It is a shambles.

People around me refer to me as a fan of Blackberry, so when BB can sway my loyalty away from them, a "fans" loyalty, it puts in to perspective what they've done to average consumers... totally alienated them!

What's the difference between wifi direct and miracast i.e. what will the q be able to do with miracast that the z can't? ....for those who don't know...

Miracast is the ability to wirelessly display your screen onto another device (tv, monitor, etc) It runs thru wifi-direct instead of just over bluetooth or the wifi network.

It works in the Q10 and other devices going forward but the Z10 will not have it.

So in reality, this affects those individuals that have a Z10 and a Miracast TV, correct? I'm not imagining a big market there, so why is this so alarming? I ask because I don't know.

Is the Z10 DLNA certified..? If not, should it really be a surprise that this is not an available option..? Not really knowing much about miracast, is it really that big of an issue that can't be resolved in some other way?

    Horwarmat,

What is wifi direct then? just the ability to stream video, music , etc to other devices without an hdmi cable but no wireless display of the phone's screen?

I just want to be able to watch movies and YouTube videos etc on my TV (which has wifi direct) without a cable

Miracast dongles are already available for older TV sets and best buy has one now for $30. I've found the DLNA Support on the Z10 to be garbage too. It is just really pathetic that in RIM's delay of getting the Z10 to market, that they didn't update the WiFi chip, especially since they had to update the RAM to 2GB anyway because the OS turned into a resource hog.

Yeh I'm getting the same scent over here too. </end sarcasm>

You guys really should look in to Android, like seriously, you've no idea how far Blackberry is behind if you don't know what Miracast is. Just cause your ignorant to technology doesn't mean people who do are trolls

It's only recently people on CB have been educated about what USB OTG is.
Newsflash, android has also had this for years too, oh, and BB hasn't & still doesn't. lol

I don't even know what Miracast is, although a cursory Google search tells me that it's nothing a micro HDMI cable can't fix.

Yes the Z10 supports DLNA, it is the "Play On" feature in the more menu when viewing pics/videos on the phone.

It works perfectly fine between my Z10 & Xbox.
