Everybody knows the Note 2 can multitask but that's a phablet not really a phone, what it does is pretty useless on a 4inch screen.

As I said, I'm concerned with how apps behave in the background, are they fully active? Not all apps need a user input, they perform tasks as set by the user on their own like a sports app, sat nav, gps tracking and broadcasting app etc etc

I remember Kevin complaining about trying to leave a metronome app running in the background on his iphone and it would get killed after 10 minutes or so.

I too moved from a Nexus 4 to a Z10 and haven't looked back since!

For me, outright app availability isn't that much of a deal breaker for me and, in my own personal opinion, if you're side loading android apps to your Z10 then that's just daft because the whole point of switching away from Android is because it's not fulfilling your needs? So under that logic, why port apps that were designed for an OS that you weren't pleased with in the first place?

    Just my two cents worth..

It is funny how this thread started as a legitimate comparison between the Z10 and the Nexus 4. But, that was not good enough for some people so then comparisons were made to the Optimus G and now to the Galaxy Note.

I probably missed some other devices that people referred to. If so, forgive me.

Comparisons are useful if they are objectively made. Here it has become a result -oriented exercise. You are free to prefer the Note's multitasking over the Z10 ' s. But, the suggestions that one is objectively better than the other is childish.

Personally, I think that the limited multitasking on the Note and Optimus demonstrate that they are really consumer devices because the focus is on Video. At the same time, I miss the PlayBook's Showcase mode on the Z10. I wonder why that was disabled? Probably battery life issues and the fact that such small windows are ill suited for that kind of multitasking.

Thank you for your comment and I do think that with few exceptions the conversation has been mature.
As for the galaxy note, it is an excellent device, I owned the first one but I think that it is a bit too big for my taste. Don't like stretching my fingers that far, also I am not that much into watching movies or playing games (older generation). I even think that one of the advantages of the Z over the Nexus 4 is that one can easily reach the far corner of the screen and that the software interface rarely requires such a move.

I recently bought a Nexus 4 for my sister. I bought a 9810 for her previously when I got my 9900, and wanted to buy the Z10 for her too once its available. I would have bought it if it was available sooner. But the delay, combined with watching updates on BB World, made me reconsider, she was bugging me for a new phone, and I decided on the Nexus 4. Imported one in since it wasn't sold in my country and LG publicly announced they have no intention of bringing it in any time soon.

I realised that Z10 might be a cool phone to have since its really new, but with the app situation, I would rather have a proven platform that have a rich ecosystem. I might not need as much apps and games, but she needs whatsapp, but unfortunately it is still not available yet, and even an android port doesn't work 100% lacking contacts. She want to be able to play the latest games that her friends are playing. She wants to hav instagram. She might be really interested in the Z10, certainly impressed, but there are a few things stopping me for getting it for her. Apps being one of it of course.

She's now really satisfied with the Nexus 4, and after playing with it for a couple of days myself, I am too. Sure there is a few things I could nitpick as well (as with any phone on the market), but overall it does everything she wants. ****, even i think i could learn to live with it. She could now play even more games on her phone now (which i'm not sure is good or bad), lol. Its a great device all round, and at the price, a bargain.

I am a BlackBerry fan, but I agree with a majority of reviewers out there when they say that any existing users on iOS and Android who are satisfied with their existing platform, have no reason to switch. They might get some benefits from BB10, but they will get compromises as well, and unless they can live with it, it will be better for them not to switch first. Perhaps it will be a better time to switch once BB10 is more matured. I would rather they switch later, than switch now, and be disappointed, and say "Its the same old problems again".

Over the year i have used phones from various platforms, despite always going back to my BB after a few weeks. Other platforms are able to do what BB10 can, plus they have a rich ecosystem and matured OS. Sure BB10 does some things a bit differently, some may argue that its a better way of doing, some may see it as a feature worth switching, but fundamentally, the things it can do, other platforms can do too. Some may see it as a feature worth switching for, worth not having as much apps, etc. That said, I will be getting a Z10 once it is available in my country. I've seen reviews, demos, etc, and it works well for me, plus I really enjoy unified inbox on all my BB, and i'm not willing to give that up as it saves me a lot of time. I can live with needing to wait for the ecosystem to mature, i can live with the initial bugs. But i'm not sure I could live with having my sister bugging me, "why is the z10 doing this?", "why don't the z10 have this app yet?".

Ultimately we can refer back to Kevin's hierarchy of needs from a mobile phone. Different phone will suit different people. There is no singular perfect device that could fit everyone's needs. Go for what works best for you. Simple as that. In my sister's case, Nexus 4 works better for her at this point of time. Z10 will probably work better for me.

    Peace.

You are aware that both sentences actually contradict each other?

The "better" OS based on...your opinion? Facts? Compared to what Android version? The latest 4.2.2?

Sorry but exactly posts like this one are the reason why I can't take many posts/threads here too seriously.

Comparing the Nexus 4 to the Z10: Well, if one doesn't use BSE, the Nexus 4 is definitely the better and much cheaper choice. There is nothing to argue about.
So far, the Z10 hasn't convinced me at all that it can keep up with the bunch of modern competitors, unless one uses the mentioned BES environment. The lack of apps availability is tragic, maybe not to everyone here but if you don't need apps, why the heck did you buy a smartphone?!
Bottom line is: The Z10 is new, criticism should be allowed and even encouraged but instead, the hype is so big, that many Z10 owners (or "followers") here don't seem to see the reality. If the Z10 is BB's future, BB is doomed.

I own the Note II too and while I agree that it is an interesting Android product, I'm not fully convinced. The Note II still shows some micro-lags (the Nexus 10 is actually the first Android device without any micro-lags, especially the latest 4.2.2 update rocks). So far, for me, the iPhone 5 is the best choice. Perfect size and weight, perfect display size, amazing apps availability (I am talking about high quality apps, not fart apps) and very easy to download paid content like music, videos, tv shows and movies on the run. After the iPhone 5 comes the HTC OneX+ in my book but I also like the Nokia Lumia 920 or, price-wise maybe the better choice, the HTC 8X. The Note II is difficult to use with one hand and if I need a tablet, I use something else, something bigger.

It really depends what you are looking for in a phone: Is it the size, the display size, the apps availability, the functionality or do you just want to have a feature-rich mega super duper phone you can brag about but you don't even use 10% of it's capabilities?
I need to work with my phone, I make money with it, so it needs to be reliable, small, light, with a decent battery life and I need to be able to do everything I do on a desktop computer for work.
So far, the iPhone 5 is just perfect for me and I could see myself using one of the latest Android or WP8 high end phones too but the Z10 is definitely not in the same league, sorry to say that. Unless of course you need the Z10 for BES, then there is no real competitor of course.

The Z10 is just hardware and works perfectly for me. The OS is brand new but works perfectly for me right out of the box.

Let's see where things stand in six months - apps, Os tweaks and the anticipated BlackBerry phone model post q10.

Early days for the new blackberry. But from my seat in the stadium, exciting and promising. Happy to be an active part of it. I'm sure early Android and iPhone users felt the same at the time.

I believe current Android builds come with a stock email app that can toggle a combined email box. Not sure because I deleted mine LOL.

I was supposed to do one but I've been very busy since I came back plus my wee smart car decided to get sick lol, was just a broken wire but knocked it off the road for a few weeks.

It's probably a bit too late to write a review now, too many out there already lol

You set up the various email accounts in the stock email application, even Gmail if you want it to be in one place. Then up in the top left hand corner is a toggle you can look at each account individually - or one combined account with color coded bars on the left hand side to indicate which account the email came from. Works very effectively.

I have to admit the first thing I have always done when I got a new BB was separate out the text messages from the combined inbox. I am concerned about now having all the social media in the one box as well - email is my most important tool and I like being able to keep separate the other "noise". Will be interesting to see if the hub works for me or not I hope there is/will be options as there has been in the past to keep this as it was I know for many having it all in one place is good, for me, not so much but I look forward to playing with it and seeing what degree of customization is available.

Not many devices use a 4 inch screen anymore. Even the Z10 uses a 4.2in screen, right? As far as Android phones (phones, not phablets) go, most have above a 4.3in screen, and within the past year most are above 4.5in. We were once productive on a BB 9700 correct? Just eyeballing my SGS3, I'd say the capability where you can view two windows on the same screen (if I had it on my SGS3) would be roughly equivalent to using two 9700 screens side by side. I think that's more than adequate.

Now, if we had this capability on the Z10, yes I'd say it would be a bit cramped. However, if the Aristo specs are to be believed (4.65in screen, same as the SGS3) then I think having the split screen multitasking capability would benefit the Aristo as much as it does some current Android devices, and it would be neat to see what other little touches BBRY would provide along with it.

I believe with the last updates, the GS3 can do much of what you saw in that video, you don't need 5.3 I think 4.8 works just as well - but I haven't found a video that shows it off as well as that one - the ColdFusion guy is very good if you have an Android phone in your arsenal (many of us have multiple platforms - please respect our system ) I recommend to consider subscribing to his YouTube channel.

That *is* pretty impressive indeed! The Notes are just too big for me to consider to be a daily driver . I'd rather have a phone with a 4.5in-ish screen and/or a 7-8in tablet.

Yes, they're active. During the spring/summer when I ride my bike or walk outdoors, I use Cardio Trainer to track my progress. I set it to track my route, then I jump into my Amazon MP3 app to start streaming music from my cloud player. Sometimes I'll text, check myself in on foursquare or facebook, etc. Both Cardio Trainer and Amazon MP3 keep updating/streaming without interruption. I have my Cardio Trainer to give me voice updates when I reach certain periods, like mile markers. When this happens, the voice giving me the update is simultaneous with my music. Same thing with GPS navigation. I'll set my route, follow the map, and if I happen to be in another app the voice assisted direction will come on if I need to make a turn.
