In the UAE, Etisalat and Du(carriers) have blocked BBMV/Skype!!!!!!!!!!
I am so effin infuriatedddddd ahhhhh
SOMEONE PLEASEEEE FIND A WAY TO UNBLOCK IT ON BB10!!!!!!!!!

Edit: okay Skypes not an issue as of yet(although theyve announced it's blocked/will be blocked)

wtf is wrong with you? relax. Skype isn't out yet, it's coming soon. Not sure about how you would get BBM if your carrier blocked it.

My BlackBerry contact says that simply changing the DNS settings wont help(like it did with the BETA versions) since it depends on the way the backend servers are configured

Yeah skypes not an issue as of yet, but with BBMV blocked, skype will too definitely...

This is a carrier issue, I doubt you'll be able to "circumvent" this block somehow, they control the pipeline....

I feel for you though, if you have enough data on your plan to cover the usage and increased data it'll pull, I'm not sure why they'd go out of their way to prevent this feature

The UAE doesnt really have a taxation system as such, revenues from the Telco's are a big source of revenue(both carriers are owned by the government if im not wrong?)
They do still offer unlimited data blackberry plans which they claim will work on the Z10's...
Really need a solution for this ASAP! They began selling devices today..

I think you have to stick with an OS7 device if you want to continue having 'open' access......

But that doesn't really help if you want a z10, which the diehards obviously do. Honestly, this isn't the greatest situation for our middle east friends. I would suggest you start voicing your frustrations to the carriers in your region, if enough people complain maybe they will change their policy....

BBM Voice. It was added recently to OS5 and above. Up until BB10, it's only been available over wifi, but it seems that the OP is saying that their local carriers are not allowing it at all for some reason.

Well BBM voice and video is at present blocked but maybe with a vpn it would be possible. Will get my Z10 first thing in the morning... Will try and update here....

Ive heard the same from my BlackBerry contact in Waterloo regarding the need for a vpn.. Please keep us updated!

I also bought the z10 yesterday night from dubai, had a dev alpha with me aswell.

Am using it on a normal plan and it does show the option for BBM voice..
Will try and use it and update u ppl.
Need to find some one with a z10 first.

strange thing is that at times today it showed me the option for BBM video chat and thn disappeared..

i was able to get it working once, other times the option itself was missing.

It worked on the Beta version of BBM with a little bit of tweaking the wifi settings if required... dont know if the same can be done on z10's?
eventually they will have to allow it, question is when could be months/years maybe even days..
hence, a solution is required.

When you say normal plan you mean a data plan or bb plan? i am currently on the etisalat 185 unlimited plan..
