Running another thread on lack of device storage when I came across this little gem at the bottom of my device storage details...

Why is there miracast listed when I thought the z10 didn't support it??

Miracast shows in Z10 Device Monitor?-img_20140618_174627.png

Jason, the software may reflect the coding to indicate this ability but BlackBerry Z10 STL 100-2,3 and 4 have hardware limitations in the chipset, making this impossible. The STL 100-1 hardware does support this ability, but I guess to stop confusion (or for whatever other reason), BlackBerry decided to disallow this functionality for all Z10 devices.

Z10 doesn't support Miracast but it's still part of the OS.

At 484KB it's minuscule and won't have any meaningful effect on your available Device Storage.

Ah gotcha. Thanks for the clarification, I thought maybe I stumbled on some new addition in the latest OS that made it possible.

    Nope sorry!
I'm unsure about STL100-1, but 2/3/4 don't have the hardware required for Miracast.

BB10 was initially delayed while they worked on the OS. The Z10 was designed and in many cases built quite earlier than the Q10.

It's more limited but Z10 can still stream with DLNA. For example you can stream videos you recorded yourself to compatible TVs, media players, PCs, etc.

Not just videos you recorded yourself... it can also display videos that are either in the device's internal memory or on your memory card.

So, if you have some music videos or other stuff, perhaps downloaded from YouTube etc., you can display those over DLNA. However, DLNA doesn't appear to work for movies that are rented or subject to "Digital Rights Management" aka DRM.

I asked BlackBerry about this on a partner webinar. I'm almost sure they answered Z10 does not have the necessary hardware (Wi-Fi chipset related).
