Don't know if this is new or not but I found a way to make custom settings shortcuts in the universal search:

-go to universal search an start typing a name of a setting like "development mode"

    - the result will appear, click on it and go to the settings page

-now go back and put your cursor in the search field and clear the field by pressing the X to the right.

    - you will now see the development mode is "memorized" as a shorcut

    - now whenever you click on the universal search, you will see development mode

    - continue adding more custom settings

BTW: you can clear them off by going to Settings > Search > delete search history

I don't know if this was done on purpose by BlackBerry but it's a cool trick.

I have not gone to 10.1 and I have this ability. it is a handy trick. It's like having an application HUB. Good post many will get use from this info.

one thing I would like to see us the option to have the search not stay in active frame after use. Just have to close it, but I have yet to find a use for it in active frame.

Well, with these shortcuts, you now have a reason to keep the search open as an active frame.

    That'd what I'm doing

fair enough but the search button is on the main screens. so easy access.

I agree to disagree about agreeing to disagree....or something? ?

No, I see your point, maybe the only advantage to have it as an active frame is a bigger area to tap on to bring up the search?

I think one of my favorite shortcuts so far is the mobile network where you can change your network mode to save battery if you are in some kind of concrete bunker of an office

Takes 2 taps vs 4 taps to get there:
