That, and one that's good and let's you do the switch easily to BlackBerry 10. In India they did this and it boost the sales 40% or so I've read...

Definitely could work but depends on the credit that would be given.

    I agree.

This would at least get existing legacy BlackBerry users to think about upgrading to BlackBerry 10. Might even get some Android and iOS users to switch too.

Yeah, they're only giving $100 bucks and I'm pretty sure you could get more than that just about anywhere else, haha

I agree. I can't tell you how many legacy BlackBerry phones I see around. They seem to be everywhere. Something needs to be done to entice these users to make the switch to BlackBerry 10. Of course they better not lose any money on the trade in plan.

I know about that, that's why I said, a good one. $10 for my ex 8530 a year ago is a joke

I actually sold that one for $50 and it was a CDMA locked to one company phone.

They have one in Oz now. Minimum $100 trade in on any phone for a Z10. But you have to use a crappy telco to get it.

They need to just double the carriers incentive and do a major marketing push. Also it needs to be at point of sale not a mail in rebate and applicable to any phone the person is trading in.

My phone for example when I got it they gave me $100 in really beat up condition.

BlackBerry should offer to double that number. I would have gotten the phone much sooner had they done that.

It would be good to do that to pur more BB10 devices out there but still one of the problem is the sellers from carriers.... young people stuck with apple and android not noing that BB10 is really a great and fast OS!!!

Used to be able to upgrade iPhones at fully subsidized new contract/upgrade pricing as soon as the new ones came out (regardless of where you were in your contract). It was a great way of getting new phones into loyal hands and did a lot to create the secondary market introducing the devices to people unwilling to sign contracts or unable to pay full retail.

I fantasized about BlackBerry doing this with BB10 but, like most of my fantasies, it was not to be .

Well, Here in India, They offered exchange discounts upto $175 for 9900, upto $140 for 9790, upto $100 for 9320 & upto $50 for entry level models like 85xx. The MRP for Z10 is $700.

Yes, There are news like it gave boost to sale by 40% but honestly, when I inquired with some friends who operates/owns mobile stores, they said that the response is very low. iphone and Samsung still continues with heavy exchange advts but BB did only 1-2 advts in July then it went quiet.

Now, with the news in the market that BBRY is on sale, the overall sale went tremendously down. Some online stores are started liquidating their stocks at throw away prices. The last offer I saw was $530 without any exchange programme and with official 18 months official warranty. I also heard that some retailers have started clearing their stocks in fear of the news. I'm looking for a good deal for lovely Z10. I will grab it as soon as it matches my budget even though my mobile store friends are trying hard to sell a Android to me. I believe in BBRY.

But In market like India, What BBRY needs to offer is mid and low range OS10 devices and should continue exchange advts for high end devices. Till OS7, BBRY was doing quite well here only because of good product range within all price brackets. There are loads of blackberry users in India who are switching to Androids.
