I asked @blackberryhelp if on the Z10 sms are kept only for 30 days like on the older phones by default or not, and they told me that the Z10 deletes them after 30 days.
Is that true?
There isn't any option to keep them forever

Mine delete after 30 days. There is no need to keep them for any longer. They can bog down your device if you have a lot imo. I know 100% that it can pervent text messages from coming through if your device's SMS memory is full. It can also cause delayed messaging.

There are some texts I'd like to save as well. Your best bet is to take screen shots if you are speaking about saving material that be it personal/business.

I have texts on my Z10 from December. They transferred in when I set up my device, but I don't see anything about texts deleting after 30 days, there is a setting for how long to keep emails, but I haven't found anything for texts.

My 600mhz t-mobile g1 managed thousands of texts without any visible slowdowns, so i don't think a powerful handset like the z10 would be affected.
Texts are stored in a high performance database (sqlite) and only the most recent are retrieved at once, so it shouldn't slow down

I only keep text messages from my wife and daughter. I have those back to October...
I delete the rest of the text messages -- they're usually just one-off's.

I have txts on my phone from the first day I got my Z10 on Feb 5th and they are still there. And when I transfered over my stuff using Link or BB protect or whatever, I have txts that date back to last April (2012)
