Amongst a bevy of power users, we have seen some truly remarkable heat from batteries from how hard we push our devices. They do draw some juice with heavy use.

Would battery pull do the trick?
- 02-09-2013, 12:36 AM #5
If I had a penny for every time I see another person write this. OK, let me say this again: BATTERY PULLS DO NOT DO ANYTHING IN BB10. Got it? BB was even thinking about making the battery non-removable (I wish they did just to stop people from suggesting battery pull for everything).
Anyways, to answer your question, it is normal as the phone has to do a lot of syncing when you first start using it. Give it a few days to settle. The more important question is why you were so compelled to start a new thread when there are at least a dozen for this same exact issue... - 02-09-2013, 12:47 AM #6
It gets very hot at first. I am noticing that over time it is not getting as hot.

Awesome, BB10 includes a free hand warmer ;-)
May be a hardware fault, in which case ask for a replacement, or may be part of phone settling in. I guess you don't have long to ask for a replacement, so don't take long to decide.9900 OS 7.1.0.714 Official O2

Hot battery
You can always turn it off by holding the top button down for 3 seconds. My battery gets very hot if the radio is cranked up on downloads or if I'm playing processor intensive games.

Is this coz the battery door is made out of plastic?
- 02-10-2013, 07:06 AM #13
No, it's because the battery just gets hot...and it would be worse if the door was built from something other than plastic.

I guess it's a new thing to lots of people who have only used blackberries, but seriously guys modern phones get really quite hot when you push them. There's a bunch of reasons for it, but it comes down to more powerful processors and much thinner devices. The more powerful the chip, well... the more power its using. The more power being used means more heat is being produced. Combine that with continually thinner devices and you have less stuff between you and the bits that get hot and so you feel the heat more than you would have previously.
Seriously, do not worry about the device getting hot. It is working as intended. It's just what happens with modern devices. Do not panic. It will not damage your device or you.

Don't judge this by the first couple of days unless you really have a feel for how hot things should get. The first day it will likely be doing a lot of extra message syncing and sorting and this could significantly increase the power consumption, and if you're actively using it for other things at the same time it may be running pretty warm/hot for a while.

Yes experienced this. I've had a device swap as a result and experienced the exact same thing on the replacement Z10. In both scenarios the device ran hot for roughly 10hrs after restoring my data and replacing the SD card - during this time battery drain was significant and it was near impossible to re-charge. What I would like to know is does BB10 go through some sort of indexing process initially in the background? My data consisted of pdf files, music and a some video about 20GB in total. After the 10hr period the device performs fine - battery life on heavy usage phone & email - 8hr , medium usage phone/email - 12hrs.

I found by leaving the "allow gestures while locked" turned on in Settings/Display and then putting the phone in my pocket drained the battery in 5 hours and made it very warm. I think the phone thought I was trying to wake it up all the time while in my pocket. After turning this default feature off I am getting 16 hours life and the phone is cool.
