Exactly as the title says. Took a few pics in sunny conditions and when reviewing the pics later noticed that the subjects had a 'halo' or ghosting a round them.

I noticed this too. The trick is to stay really still even a second or so after you've taken the picture

I thought the point of HDR was for poor lighting shots? But thanks for the heads up

It's meant for shots with High Dynamic Range in them.

For example a strongly sunlit sky but lots of dark shadows on the ground for example. It then exposes for both the sky and the shadows and stitches together the correctly exposed areas of both images that results in one image that looks closer to what you saw with the eye.

Without HDR you will have to either overexpose the sky to get the ground right or underexpose the ground to get the sky right. It's a technological limitation.

A fully sunlit scene won't benefit from HDR. Nor a totally dark environment.

The halo is a normal result of HDR. If you had the original shots that comprised the final image and Photoshop, you can fix it.

Yeah I found that if I hold still even after the click it helps avoid this

Yup - Was as still as one can be. Still haloed.

I suppose that this is a ymmv situation, however just one more thing that shows lack of polish.

There is a setting to save the originals. Swipe down in the camera > Settings > HDR Photo Capture. Turn this On.

Can't test it because I'm on the bus, but it says, "Save the original photo..." so it may be only processing one photo and not doing true HDR. Can someone not on a bus test this and report back?

HDR takes multiple exposures in sequence with different levels of exposure and integrates them to widen the dynamic range. If there is ANY movement between the actual captures you will get some ghosting.

The camera in the Z-10 is capable of capturing frames at roughly 5fps. Therefore, any movement (ANY!) during the 1/5th (approximately) second period involved will result in some level of aberration of this sort.

HDR is good for still standing objects if you also stand still. With kids no go.
