Am I missing some sort of setting to get the native Evernote support to show notes in HTML? I've tried getting round the problem by sideloading the Android app but it runs very poorly.

You're correct, there is only plain text syncing to Evernote through the Remember app. I'm pretty ticked, they heavily promoted this phone as having Evernote's functionality built-in; what exists so far is like the DOS-era equivalent of Evernote. They need to improve Remember dramatically and/or we need a native Evernote app.
