You didn't mix up "call blocking" with "show my number" right?

I believe when you check this ON as don't show phone number...It turns your number into a private or restricted number and you need to dial a code before placing calls. I use to do that on my home phone....

You don't need to dial any code when this feature is enabled. It automatically suppresses your number.

That's a new one for me. Never heard of that before.

I have the "show my number" turned on my default. There are only a few calls I make where I don't want them to be able to see my number. For those call I just dial #31# before the number to suppress my number for that call only.

I just tried turning off the "show my number" on mine and was able to make calls even with my number suppressed. I didn't get the same warning as you.

As a former Bell employee my first thought is that this a related to your carrier. I'm wondering if they have it set up so that your number has to be suppressed by them on the network side, instead of by the phone. It used to be that way with Bell Mobility.

    What carrier are you with?

Yeah, maybe give them a call to see if they want the network to block your number instead of the phone.

I will but kind of defeats the purpose of having the option on the phone and being able to switch it on the fly

This "show my number" connects to your carrier. Every time you enable and disable it, the carrier is informed and the changes is made from their end. Contact your carrier.

Absolutely. It does defeat the purpose. Manufacturers started putting that in phones to give the user more options and direct control.

Unfortunately, if the carrier doesn't let you do that there's no option but to have them do it.

As I said. It works fine on mine so I'm thinking it's a carrier issue.

That might the case some carriers.

In the case of Bell Mobility it doesn't work that way. When that is turned on/off Bell doesn't know. It suppresses the number at the phone.

Bell also have an option to disable the outgoing caller ID on their network. When they do that whether or not the "show my number" is on or off your number won't appear.

I have the same issue running 10.2.1.2941. The "Show my number" setting isn't even listed in the phone settings menu. I'm on Verizon.

I just tested this. If I turn of my mobile network, the "block calls" and "show my number feature" disappears.

Show your number is linked to your carrier, so if the carrier requires it to be, then the device will require the same. The problem here lies with your carrier not the BlackBerry.
As another poster mentioned, the way around this, is to in put a code before dialling the desired number, which blocks the number.
I don't know what it would be where you are but here for example, it would look something like this *41*telephonenumber

I've just tested switching it off on my Z30STA100-6/10.2.1.2141 and I could still make calls no problem.

Verizon is a CDMA network unless I'm mistaken?
I would definitely think that this is controlled by them

So it did work for you previously? More then once? Did you try it without the Bluetooth and see if it made any difference?
If its a CDMA network like I said before I would very much imagine it is controlled by them.
I dont see why it shouldnt work unless your carrier is controlling it.

Its highly possibly to call your carrier and speak to someone who has absolutely no clue what they are talking about..... it wouldnt be the first time something like that happened.
You could always ask a friend on the same network, if they can turn it off on their device and still make calls
