Does my Z10 need a screen protector? And then the first post 'I don't want it to get scratched'.

Does anyone make a decision for themselves these days?

    Apparently not.

I'm on my third BlackBerry plus a Playbook. I had one in my PB and took it off....hated it. only scratch I've had was on my old curve. It's your call. They are relatively cheap, so buying one and taking it off later is no big deal.

Yes. Go to Amazon and order one one for yourself now. The package comes with two.

If you crack the glass on a "touch on lens" display, the digitizer will fail. It is not like the older phones.

I'm using Ghost Glass, a tempered glass type protector. Initial units had quality problems, but the last one they sent me was excellent. No bubble issues.

    Thread Revival!

I've always used protection, but for some reason the ones I'm currently using scratch just from my dry fingers.

I'm very tempted to go naked.

Try tempered glass screen protector. 0.2mm thin ones are available on eBay. Bottom side is coated with silicone compound and sticks to the screen just like regular plastic protectors.

Use a screen protector. The glass on the Z10 is very easy to scratch and break because it's thin and cheap.

Scratch resistance depends on material used, not the thickness. I nave no information how "cheap" the Z10 screen glass is. It's similar to the glass used in most other phones. They all scratch and break if hit hard enough.

I dropped a small computer mouse on my Z10 from approximately a foot and shattered the screen.
Upon inspection, I was quite surprised at just how "unthick" the display actually was.
I'm pretty sure had I dropped the same mouse onto my iPhone or Nexus 4 the result would have been very different. Especially for the Nexus.
Since then I've been using a matte screen protector.

All mobiles need screen guards even though they has gorilla glass because sand particles has higher hardness than gorilla glass so it will scratch.
I use glass screen guard. It is very nice....

Those are rather pricey, aren't they?

Haven't used a screen protector since I bought the phone in February 2013, but use a blackberry flip cover, which saved from a few falls

Not bad quality ones are about $10-12. The only little issue is when swiping up from the bottom of the screen you can actually feel it, even if it's 0.2mm thick only.

I didn't go with one on mine for the first time and it does have a few scratches, now almost two years later. I will get one next time around.

Simple physics - in order to reduce glare, the top surface of a matte screen protector is not flat on a microscopic level. It looks like many micro lenses. This structure changes the direction of light, so you have less glare, but lower picture quality too (color distortions and reduced resolution).

There is a good thread here on CB showing with pictures the exact difference:
    http://forums.crackberry.com/blackbe...0-pics-946917/

If you're OK with it and don't see any difference, then just continue using it. For many people though it's not a good option. I can tell what kind of screen protector is used in 2 seconds even on full brightness. Screens with clear or glass protectors look much better.

I don't use a screen protector or case. It just feels better to use, and I don't drop objects often.

I just hate that I keep putting protection on the screen and they scratch from ANYTHING. And then there are these lines of distorted light. >
