Under BlackBerry Hub Settings go to Emergency Alerts and you'll see this.

We the people of New York were awakened this night by an amber alert. The crazy thing is that you could disable amber alerts on BB, but it seems like this annoying fire alarm ringtone cannot be disabled for alerts.

Wow I don't even have an emergency settings tab like that. Is that for US carriers only?

Yes. I've had it, but since the start of my vacation, every Country I've visited does not have any options for emergency alerts

First off, I think you should change your subject line. In Canada and I believe if not mistaken in other countries, the term Amber Alert is used for children who are missing or have been abducted. I find this misleading and inappropriate.

That being said, the previous post should help you with your issue.

EDIT: I completely miss read this post. Wow I didn't even know these alerts existed. Lesson learned, always read through thoroughly. My apologies for grilling the OP for his choice of subject line, it's warranted.

A related question on the emergency alerts.
What situation should set off the extreme and severe alerts? I have both turned on.
I was hoping for weather alerts but haven't had the 1st one. Even though there have been some in the area via NOAA during some bad storms.

    Thanks.
Does it also alert on severe thunder storms?
    I'm also on a Z10 and haven't gotten anything.
Does it stay in the Hub until you acknowledge it?

I am curious about my phone.

My original Z10 had all this gov't alert stuff on it, but it was a rebooter, so on day 13 I exchanged it for my current phone.

This new phone had a couple of weird things about it:

    * The initial boot sequence gave me a date of manufacture - something like the first week in December. My original phone didn't do that.

*I didn't get any reboots from the new phone. Stable as a rock.

*I didn't, and still don't have the gov't alerts on my phone - no menu, no settings, nada. My 9900 has them and received alerts, but not the Z10.

Was there a mix up and I received a phone intended for another market? A fluke phone? I'm not complaining; just curious.

Are you checking the Hub Settings and not the general phone settings?

Must be carrier driven, I know when this has come up in the past not all networks have this ability enabled. Really weird that ATT would pull it out of settings though, maybe they don't want people asking them about it.

I realize that I'm on the wrong forum (I have a Q10) but since it's BB10 related and a lot of my friends are on this forum, I noticed this post. I am in the US (so CA) and on AT&T. I had this emergency alert available on my 9810 but not on my Q10 and have looked everywhere for it. Hopefully it will come back with the next update or a leak as it's not on my phone, anywhere. Also don't have "cell broadcast" either.
BTW, as mentioned "Amber Alerts" are in the US as well as other countries and was started here. They were put into place in 1996 after a 9-year old little girl named Amber Hagerman (think that was how it was spelled) who lived in Arlington, Texas was abducted in front of her brother and others and taken away, and killed by a guy driving a pickup truck. From the media coverage around this case the "Amber Alert" was developed and is transmitted nationwide on highway signs and on media whenever a child is abducted. It has saved many, many children and helped law enforcement in their efforts to recover kidnapped children. One of the good things that has come out of horrible events like these. Just some fyi as we see them all the time in Los Angeles and southern CA in general.

Wow you don't have cell broadcast either? What OS version are you on? Technically the emergency alerts are pushed cell broadcasts, maybe ATT decided all on or all off, instead of breaking them down.

    @lang

    you on ATT too?
