I'm using a later OS and the section has moved, it seems. It's now under:

Settings > Language and Input > Prediction and Correction > Word Substitution

Marvelous, thanks! Right, I've added the substitution, but one thing annoys me: there's always a space after the preceding number, for example "50 F", when it substitutes the symbol. I have tried the older variable %b to try to introduce a backspace, but this puts a space after the symbol!

Any ideas on the BB10 variable for a backspace, please?
Old reply, but this bugs me, too! The backspace variable use to work in BB07 and earlier but is broken in BB10. That dratted space can't be removed. Ages ago, I had suggested that very deg=symbol for the substitution in earlier OS's.

I use v=? so I have the Question Mark on the "first page" so to speak but there's now always a space in front of ?

I don't think you can edit the long press menu.

Also one cannot do multi-line substitutions like one could under the classic BBOS. I used the substitution to put a choice of footers on emails and cannot do that anymore. Grrrrr.....

    Funny, stumbling across this thread!

On Boxing Day, I used voice assistant to text my dad. I asked him to look for 56 or 60 wedge at the golf store. BlackBerry Assistant put in the symbol automatically.

I actually used it again here.

The best way to get the degree sign is to simple copy it from somewhere and then add the word "Deg" and make the phone replace that with the degree symbol in text prediction

Ohter than what is discussed above, that STUPID word substitution still will not erase/backspace/delete the extraneous space.

Yes, I, too, noticed that Word Substitution now can delete the extra space character. FINALLY

    Thanks!!

    BBOS 10.3.1 on a Q10, I added a substitution o → %b%B.
That removes the space before and after the degree symbol. Wish it was available directly on the keyboard though...

OK, I plead total ignorance, being a recent convert to the wonderful world of BB10...

How on Earth do I make my Z10 type a degree symbol?

    Any help very much appreciated!
All you need to do is press the sym key then hold down the % key and the ° symbol will appear. There are other symbols that different keys have, so hold away and see what you will find.

    Welcome to CrackBerry.

You realize you reopened a two-year old thread?

Also, there's no SYM key on the Z10 virtual keyboard.
