Oay, so, has anyone tried to cut their SIM card to fit into the z10? Is it easy to do, and most importantly, how much of a risk do I take damaging my phone while doing it?

    Thanks

(And, the roaming carrier I'm thinking of only has full size sims, so getting a regular one form my carrier isn't an option)

did it with a Solavei SIM, they had sent out a regular SIM and was too impatient to wait. Worked fine, downloaded a template and cut it with a scissors, sanded the edges. There are sim cutters and adapters available on amazon.

I bought a SIM cutter on Amazon before my phone arrived. I cut it and it works fine with no issues.

It's quite easy, even if you over chop as long as you don't chop some parts of the sim you will still be ok.

Get a template online, a good pair of scissors, and go at at.

I got myself a microsim but was very frustrated with the carrier since they haven't activated it despite constant follow ups. I was so frustrated that I decided to cut my minisim myself. Used the new microsim as template and used an x-acto knight to cut it myself. what do you know, it works.

why not go to your carrier to pick up a new one??
The worst thing that can happen is having to buy another z10 cause you screw up and go the sim stuck.

Just be careful. When I went to have mine cut, the lady on the shop and I were surprised that it has this odd, extra long form. I had to get a new SIM with my carrier.

So, if it looks like the one in the adapter, go for it.

    Cut SIMs and z 10-img_00000017.jpg

    How funny.

Now, to answer the original question: You won't get any of the BIS features, but your phone will work. And if your BIS plan is like mine, you'll have unlimited data.

Dude in my carrier the BIS provides full indefinite internet with no blocking, it only degrades, but the new plan only gives me 5 GB and then it will stop working, that's why i'm asking !

I just broke a pin on my first Z10 with a Nano to Micro adapter. I switched to a new micro on my new device.

You will get your normal data from your bis plan.
You can ignore the fact you get unlimited bis data, it doesn't work with the z10

Wrong. BIS FEATURES don't work. Compressing, Push, Encryption, NOC access.

The plan characteristics remain unchanged. If it was 500mb/month it will remain 500mb/month. If it was unlimited, it will remain unlimited.

Here, my problem with BIS is: The carrier has it capped at 3mb speed MAX (1.2mb average) at HSPA+. If I want faster speeds, I need to get a new plan and let go of BIS. Other carriers may vary.

i though this forum was to learn about stuff, no need for sarcasm !

With the BIS plan the internet doesn't end ever, just degrades, unlike the new plan which if you use the amount of MB your getting, internet stops !!

There is a remote chance that you might damage your sim. I know because my wife damaged her sim card, even though it was cut with an adapter at a shop.

However, my sim is also cut by the same shop and it works like a charm.
