I have an Amzer combo holster that i am very happy with.
Amzer Shellster ShellCase w/ Holster for BlackBerry Z10 | BlackBerry Case & Holster Combos | ShopCrackBerry
the only thing missing is the "in holster" activation. On the older BBs I was able to fake it with a magnet.
Anyone know how to do it with the Z10?
    thx

Take a look at "Holster Profile" in BB World. I believe it was $0.99, but it replicates much of the BB OS flexibility for notifications.

You can also buy a rare earth magnet and attach it to your holster. On top of that there are holster settings in your phone app: swipe from the top and choose Settings and then Holster. there are not too many though...

Rare earth magnets are very strong ones, compared to standard magnets. They're available in hobby or craft stores.

i have a broken hd so i took the magnet from that (quicker than going to the store).
now I have to figure out how to glue it on to the case to make it work.
    great

I've found that it takes a really strong magnetic to trigger the lock on my Z10. The one built into my Otterbox Defender isn't strong enough.

And I see that the magnet has to be really sitting on the bb. Not very easy to get it working.

The sensor seems to be located on the left side of the screen and about halfway between top/bottom and 1/2 inch inward when the Z10 is in Portrait mode.

You clinched it by sending in the correct spot.
I glued the magnet to the holster and have "in holster" without the rip-off pricing.
    Thanks

Using the CB app, you need to go to Settings/Security/App Permissions and allow file access/sharing/whatever if you want to post photos.

Actually it is strong enough, but the design of the case isn't. If the phone is upside down, screen out in the holster. It will trigger.

I have purchased a rare earth magnet (which is rectangular in shape) from a hardware store and I have installed it in between the clip of the holster and the holster itself. There's a small pocket in there which can be used for this. The clip itself is metalic and it holds the magnet in place. The magnet was sliding to the bottom of that pocket but after a few tryouts I have discovered that by placing a smaller piece of a tape magnet in this pocket keeps the rare earth magnet closer to the top part of the holster, which activates the standby mode regardless of the orientation of the phone in the holster. And all of this with a $1 magnet...
