Default Charging Issue Tests - Survey

    Hey guys,

Lets see if we can run a charging issue test, using 10 as our number of observations and report back:

Here what we shall do, under the same conditions every time, plug in the Z10 with the supplied charger and wait to see if you have the lightning bolt. If you have it, record it as yes and if not, obviously nothing is recorded.

Tabulate the results and report back! I am curious to see, under the same conditions and out of 10 observations (most appropriate), what percentage of time the device will charge on the first try.

Mine is 6/10 or 60% of the time in our small observation survey

10/10. If you had asked me this 2 days ago, it would've been 1/10 or maybe 2/10 at the most...

What changed and what did you do? Did you exchange your device?

I am curious as to what the rest of CB has to say

Blackberry has posted in the knowledge base about this, but apparently its because of "slowness" in cable plugging.

KB33636-BlackBerry 10 smartphone does not display the charging indicator when plugged into a wall charger

Nope, no exchange. I just learned to plug it in the way it likes. I've noticed that there is less of a "2 click" thing going on, so I think it may have just needed to be plugged in a few times to expand. Interestingly enough, i found a USB wire from a camera that works perfectly every time. Much better than the provided cable.

Whatcha mean two click? I tried an older usb cable and it does not seem to work just like the cable provided. The old playbook charger works great but its charging faster than needed really.

The first few days, when I plugged in the supplied USB cable, there would be just one "click" when the USB cable goes into the phone. When I inserted the cable, it would sometimes charge, other times, it wouldn't. The USB cable will be hanging at a slight angle from the device. Originally, I thought this was just a manufacturing error and that the port was just put in at a slight angle. By the third day or so, I realized that if I continue to press on the cable, it will actually make a second "click" and go in fully. At this point, the cable isn't at an angle anymore. It comes straight out from the phone, but it would still sometimes not charge in this state. Then, I realized that if I make sure that the cable goes in fully, and straight, not crooked, it will charge every time. It took a few tries to get it right, but now, my phone charges every time. I think a big part of that is that the USB port on the phone is more flexible after breaking it in by using it for a few days. As for the other cable that I mentioned, that one will only go in straight. It doesn't go in angled at all, and will charge every single time.

Perfect, hmmm maybe it would be wise to think about not returning the device and exchanging it. I may end up with other issues that may bother me that are far worse as a another user mentioned.

Like every new device or item, have to learn how it likes to be worked haha

Ya, exactly. In my experience, if you return a device for a minor reason, you are likely to get one with bigger issues since your current device is otherwise flawless.

Mine connects every time, but sometimes takes up to 5 seconds to recognize that it is plugged in.

    Default charging issues

Definitely an issue and thought i was the only one with this problem. Typically takes 2 or 3 attempts to charge the device when connecting the charger to the bb. You dont see the lightening icon showing that its charging so you end up pulling the cable from the bb and trying again. Very strange and it might be a chronic issue by the sounds of it. Dont get me wrong it charges but rarely on the first connection.

    @ Summers and Mine,

Out of 10, what percentage would you approximate that it charges on the first try? Mine usually sits around 60%
