Default Charging Contacts on BlackBerry 10 devices.

Charging options for the upcoming BlackBerry 10 devices.

Sound off as to what you hope for. Im hoping for traditional Bold type contacts with a great (not the 9900 POS) charging pod.

RIM absolutely has to go wireless...charging ports work well, but on a slate device will not look as appealing...unless its a metal bezel around the phone and the ports are hidden in there...but ultimately BB10 needs wireless charging solution, take advantage of something like the "PowerMat" or something like that...place the BlackBerry on a desk and have it charge...either way, wireless would be best

Wireless would be nice but I cant see it happening just yet. Charging pods are cheap to produce and have nothing but a few wires a USB port and a couple of bent bits of copper in them. A wireless solution will require a lot more engineer and produce.

I too am hoping for charging contacts I don't know why RIM have moved away from them (I know they still use them but no where near as much as they used too) they are brilliant.

I remember seeing one of the Directors at work years ago with a charging pod for his blackberry when I was fixing his PC ever since I have thought they look badass on the desk charging the Blackberry and have always bought one for mine

The Bold stand up orientation is the best, IMO.

What they also need to do is to standardize their choice across ALL devices. Make it so the same stand can charge any BB device. Like Apple has done with their 30-pin connector based accessories. It would be more attractive to aftermarket manufacturers.

Couldn't agree more I suppose the only trouble with that is it would need to be adjustable to accommodate different handset sizes

One of the reasons for Apple's success is the feature connector at the base of their devices. It's only usable by 3rd party manufacturers on payment of a license fee, of course. The hardware connector, Pinouts and electrical characteristics are all part of the license protection so it cannot be copied.

This connector gives acces not only to charging and syncing but to audio in and out, video in/out and all the media transport controls you need to connect an iThing to just about anything you want.

This is the direction BlackBerry needs to go. Obviously RIM canot use the Apple plug but it can develop its own and then make it license free for the rest of the industry to use.

Yes, I know that the industry has just standardized on the micro USB connector + a 3.5mm jack for audio but that does not cut it today.

Maybe someone could standarize bluetooth to do the same things.

If RIM cannot do the above then just put the old charging contacts back either side of the base.

Second thought. For charging, give me PowerMat contactless charging on BB10 devices.

I've suggested in other threads a wireless charging system via the metallic BB logo on the battery door or back of phone, when placed on a receiving pad (kinda like PowerMat). Case/skin/pouch/etc. would easily be able to transfer that BB logo to the exterior of their cases (with contacts inside) to allow the same charger to be used. Docks/pods could be simple "easel" type setups that allow the phone to lay against a flat back section.

Charging holsters could even be designed with contacts to re-juice the BB while being carried on the hip/purse/etc.

Way cool if you ask me. Makes all cases/pouches/skins/etc compatible with BB issued or aftermarket chargers

What about micro usb and micro hdmi like the PB has? If there were a stand that could charge the pb whilst outputting audio/video/both that would be awesome. I don't want a proprietary connector like Apple does so that there's only one socket needed because it's a pain when you want to borrow someone's charger.
