Default Can I encrypt or lock photos on my Z10?

    Hi,

I have the Z10 and I am loving it but I thought you could encrypt files on the micro sd card to prevent unwanted eyes looking at them, have I got this wrong,if not how do you do it?

    Thanks.

I say keep reaching out to Pattern Lock . . . . they are the BEST solution for anything you want to keep NOT public.

My guess is he misunderstood what you were originally stating.

I'm in the same boat, was really hoping to be able to hide pictures on the Z10. It isn't a huge deal breaker, but I would feel a lot less worried about lending my phone to people. Guess I'll just have to bury those pictures deep inside a folder.

If I understand it correctly, when you format the card it is encrypted automatically.

I have moved my memory card between devices, and it refused to let me use or read it, telling me it was encrypted and had to be formated.

I was just saying that if Pattern Lock (the app) will work on the Z10- then at least your images can be photo password protected each time they are opened.

On your Z10 can you go to MEDIA, pressing the menu key to "explore" and dive deeper into the phone to hide folders at a deeper level? That's what I have done on my 9810- works very well, No password/pattern to protect but ONLY a BlackBerry power user would know how to get in there to that particular area.

Thanks but moving files to a lower level doesnt really protect the files but just makes them a bit harder to find.

True . . . but in the event that you cannot get a pattern lock or pattern lock type app- that hidden feature buried way in the explore section seems to be the only way. ;-( There has got to be something coming our way to ensure that you can lock any part or section of the phone. Pattern Lock cannot be thee only.

Go to Settings, Security & Privacy, and Encryption. It wasn't there before the update

it is a good start, but it would be very nice and practical is we can choose a specific folder or file to encrypt instead of the whole card or device

Good that it is an option after the update (haven't got it yet as I am in UK) but I agree it would be good to just encrypt one folder.

You can encrypt SD card and device. I have absolutely NO idea what this entails but has done so on my Z10. Also when in the file manager you can select files then zip them this gets rid of the files from showing up in recent views etc .

Yes I remember when that came out- but even with the update it doesn't sound like we are able to have control ovr folders like we had in OS7

I have found that you can hide files and folders if you just put a full stop at the start of the name basically making them hidden files as you would in windows or Unix.

However, if you hide a folder the photos can still be seen via the photo app unless all of them have a full stop at the start of their names as well.

If you do this the files are no longer visible on the z10 so you can't move other files to a hidden folder for example but these can still be seen on your pc. This isn't a great work around and would prefer the option to just password protect certain folders but it might help some people.
