I think they should build it into the OS like Samsung does with it's touchwiz interface, they have the call blocking (blacklist) feature incorporated into the phone menu. I should not have to buy some app or have a silent ringtone to block unwanted calls and/or text.

Carriers own this now, and they want to charge you for something they should do! I just called Rogers and they want $5 a month to block the scammers they let through there system, like these pricks 604-277-5364 that are giving me my second and final notice on the credit card rates....blah blah blah

Good idea. You could also set your default ringtone to that silent mp3, and assign a good ringtone to people in your address book. Eliminates telemarketers

Went to check out lumia 1520 I was surprised to see that it has sms and call blocker built into the os. BlackBerry needs one for sure!

Open up the contact, edit it. Hit the "ring tone and notifications" button. Toggle All Alerts to off. In effect, it blocks them from bugging you.
