So my phone's bluetooth has never worked quite right. For instance if it is in my pocket, I won't get a consistent connection to my headset. If I hold it closer it will work fine. This headset will go 30+ feet when used with my laptop. Is this only my phone?

That does not sound right, although I don't know for sure. I do know that when using my BT mouse, the z10 can be across the room. And now that I think about it, once I forgot my z10 upstairs was still linked to the BB Music Gateway downstairs, through some fairly thick floors and plaster and lath and probably 20 feet or more. I heard the remote music and was surprised until I recalled they were linked.

But I also recall that my motorola S9 headphones would break up on my head unless my 9930 BB was in certain pockets.

Mines like F2's. I could be at the opposite end of the house downstairs out on the back porch and my bluetooth will still be connected.

Mines like shoeengine's when it's in my pocket. Make sure the back is facing away from your body and you will get the best reception when moving. When indoors the reception will be fine. Your body actually inhibits the Bluetooth signal when outside.
