It can take forever sometimes. When the screen is black, it's either done or the battery died because you didn't leave it plugged in..lol

Ya, hit your power button to boot it back up, and that could take a bit too.

I just did a security wipe as I was exchanging my Z for another. The wipe took about 2.5 hours. I hear you can quicken the process if you delete apps first.
The update on the new phone to 10.2 took about 1.5- 2 hours or so as well.

Without any app deletion, mine is usually done in about 30 mins.

i found the best way to clear your Z10 i through BBProtect, put your Z10 password in wrong 10 times and it wipes the phone in about 30-45 mins marvelous

If you have a current backup, I would say that if it still hasn't finished the process at the time of this post, you should just pull the battery and attempt to restart the reload process of the OS as if it is a bricked device. From your description, the device was basically useless anyway, so ending the process couldn't do any further harm, IMO. I'm assuming you created a backup prior to starting any on-device wipe process anyway so you should be good. Having a full backup is key.

Others may disagree for one reason or another, but that is the nature of forums with almost 3 million members. Everyone will not have the same opinion. I personally would not wait 18-20 hours for a process that is known to take an hour generally depending on how much data there is to wipe. You could also take the opportunity to upgrade your OS if so inclined, and restore your backup.

    Good Luck.

I tend to agree with MAD. I am adventurous so would've pulled the battery long ago. But again, it's your device and your comfort level.
