I don't think there's a right or wrong way. If you slide it in with the front facing out then you can see the LED when it blink. If you slide it in the other way then your entire screen is protected so it's really just personal preference.

I think that Blackberry intended the face of the phone to face the shorter end of the pouch mostly because that still allows you to see the blinking splat light.

Exactly, the lower part of the pouch should be where the front of the phone should stick out, in order to see the red blinking light
