Default BlackBerry to stop selling in Japan

People said BlackBerry had to stop selling in Japan and now it's official.
BlackBerry to Cease Sales In Japan (Phone Scoop)

What do you think about leaving an entire country out of sales?

Maybe the less than half of one percent market share in Japan wasn't worth the cost.

Of course it wasn't worth the cost but wow, an entire country. Seems odd to me but money talks and , well, we know the rest

Yeah, this isn't new. Just sad news.

But you know what? It makes sense to move out of a market that small, specially when you have such a minimal fraction of the pie.

Build up your strength and then maybe come back strong. Here's to BB turning japanese.

Well, there was speculation a while ago but I think the "official announcement was in February" Guess since I got my Zed in March and have been active on CB only again since then I missed this. Just thought some other might have missed it also.

No need to apologize. I bet all the new Z10 users here will be shocked to know!

I knew this news & am extremely sad. I hope bb still support Japanese input for bb10 though. As far as I know there is no Japanese input for coming q10. That is the biggest reason I can't upgrade from 9900.

Yeah, from what I can tell, the Q10 and the OS10.1 update for the Z10 will introduce Korean as an input language (even though BB10 won't sell in Korea). But still no Japanese.

Japanese is a major language, used far beyond the borders of Japan - both by businesses and individuals. The decision to omit the Japanese language is provincial and short-sighted. It is a decision not worthy of BlackBerry!

Hey guys, I just got a potential job in Japan. Is there any chance I could use my Z10 in Japan?

Japan has always favored their own companies over foreign competition. Just look at the video game market. PS and Nintendo will always outsell X box.

I'm sure if BlackBerry can, they will... the problem with making BB10 available in other languages are "resources"... it may look like a simple "translation" stuff, but company will be needing resources for this... and they will not be simple resources but rather professionals... and just imagine for every OS updates, apps and even games the company will be needing to continually support this task - regardless of how many users they have that will use this language...

And as of now, even the PlayBook improvement has to be set aside to focus on priority...

Wouldn't it be ironic if Blackberry 10 imports to Japan spike... Lets wait and see.

It's not just the Japanese input, that is the easy part. The Japanese market is extremely difficult to penetrate. They have their own way of doing things, and they absolutely love their 'ketais" (Japan specially built mobiles). I have a few friends working inside apple, and they said the number of times they've entertained the idea of pulling out of Japan is shocking.

They really need to add Japanese input, which should be relatively simple...maybe it's a matter of licensing or using available non- commercial methods commercially.

Despite not selling directly in Japan, input in the language is necessary, especially with BBM going cross-platform soon.

Most Japanese who live abroad including myself are buying Blackberry phone from
local carriers and using Japanese locale. The number of Japanese user abroad
cannot be seen from the sales of BB thru Japanese carrier, NTT docomo.

It is great loss for Blackberry if they don't realize how many are using Japanese outside Japan.
I myself cannot upgrade from 9900 if no japanese input.

Exactly. As a Canadian I obviously speak English as you can probably tell but at the same time I can speak French and I'm learning Japanese. I loved the fact I could switch between English and Japanese on any of my older BlackBerry devices. It was flawless and it didn't matter what language I was writing or reading in I would just start typing.

It became second nature but on the Z10 and PlayBook I have to use IME apps. Hope Japanese input comes on the platform soon.

    PS. Love the name

The only thing they need to do as silly as it sounds is to support those weird emoticons done with special characters like \(?_)/ and the like.

Japanese people can't do without those
