You can use all BlackBerry features, including BBM, over your regular data plan. So whatever tiny amount of data a BBM message uses will be deducted from your 500 MB total if you aren't on WIFI at the time.

Well when you can use wifi, otherwise 500mb is ok if you are just gonna use simple apps like BBM, Facebook, Twitter, etc... you might borderline it, but it should be semi sufficient

Some posts i've read says it's the symbol meaning you're connected to high speed BIS e.g. when you're on 3G for instance. But since the Z10 doesn't require this, maybe it means just "high speed" connection associated with the BB server (since it's connected to BBID) ??

Ok. It's just in settings under about and network you can tell it to register with blackberry. Also the help says it's something to do with blackberry services. Not that I mind but it's confusing lol.

FB alone will easily chew through your 500 mb plan. A few people here have upgraded to more robust plans to deal with the loss of BIS. Forget about doing any web surfing...

You can use WiFi to manage your data caps but if you’re out and about, expect to get hit with some serious overages so look to maybe double your plan size for the first month to gauge how much you'll use.

I know you don't need to use BIS on the z10 anymore... But isn't there an option? I mean, I would really like to keep using BIS. It suits me perfectly and I don't wanna change it. I'll be disappointed if I have to.

No BIS required or used on the Z10.

The symbol simply means you have access to BlackBerry services i.e. BBM.

Just because there is no BIS, does not mean your phone doesn't communicate with BlackBerry servers.

BBM may not be "free", but it uses such a minimal amount of data that it won't run up your bill. Not even close.

The BlackBerry symbol shows your connection to BlackBerry servers to use services such as Protect, BBM, BlackBerry World etc. (I'm not 100% sure if email is dependent on that connection)

I think email may not be dependant on that anymore too
