On Business Insider I read a very touching story about an American Lady
that basically brought the Burberry Brand back from the abyss: it had lost
its MOJO by selling discount franchnises that greatly diluted its quality/
    price/brand.

Last year or so I recall the major heat RIM got because it would not cave
into India's requests for security info so India could look at....

Now the NSA hoohah has boiled over (again).

Me, I have rarely used BBM, mainly because my family and associates all
use iPHONES. Occasionally a RIM expert would fold space and inform me
about how to properly use my Storm, Storm 2, or Torch 9850, all using BBM.
I have heard stories about BBM staying up when all else failed.

I got my Z10 about a month ago and I have 10-20 invites in my notification
folder to crank up BBM. I have very many concerns about these invites.
Several others have reported similar notifications and concerns on this forum.
My concerns, both specific and more abstract:

    (1) can anybody just send me notifications ?

    (2) is RIM behind these invites ?

    (3) what would the "new" BBM buy me that texts and emails don't already
    provide ?

    (4) has in fact RIM diluted its brand by trying to provide BBM for the masses ?

    (5) using Z10's BBM, is it as secure as using BBM on Torch or Bold ?

    (6) for Z10 and Q10, does not security trump all else ?

    Hi,

You seem to mistake Burberry fashion items and BlackBerry phones, it is all very confusing????

1 anyone who has your PIN or BBID

    2 I doubt it

3 the "new" BBM is the same as the old, just running on a different platform.

    4 a matter of opinion, I don't think so.

5 yes, but you may have inflated ideas of how secure that is. I would not advise anyone that BBM is secure against government monitoring.

6 what do you mean by security? If you want data communication security you should use BES or a VPN. If you want security from malware then yes.

I have not given out my PIN or I'D. Why is BBM better than email or text?

Instant msging, video calls, voice calls, pictures, updates, groups, bbm channels, it runs through BlackBerrys NOC server and is the most secure way of messaging for the most part.

Ask your self what advantages texting has on bbm and you'lk see why bbm is better.

Email and bbm aren't really on the same category, unless you only use emailing to message/have a conversation with someone.

You don't have to give out your BBM id in order for someone to find you. If your bb id email address is the same you use for facebook, your bbm profile can be picked up. If you do in fact use the Facebook app on your phone if you go into bbm and select the 'invites' tab. Next select 'suggested' and there you will be able to see your Facebook contacts that use bbm. This is because their Facebook email address used is the same used for their bb id. From this you can then send them an invite. This could possibly be a way they found you!

If you are sincerely interested in trying it out, go to the community forum on Crackberry. Plenty of folks there want to connect. Really, it's not hard to find BBM users. There are 60 million of us.

So, you're saying I should just be happy contacting random people who happen to have a BB pin vs contacting my actual friends?

No... you're supposed to talk your friends into buying Blackberrys.

or you can get them to download BBM once it goes cross-platform.

Right on, right on! A solution looking around for a problem or are we
just not getting it yet.? So far, I know that I have never transmitted BBMs
but have receive them from RIM heavy hitters trying to help over the years.
I have never given out my BBID or my PIN. Yet I have 10-20 invites to BBM
it up. My totally biased perception is that this incredible messaging service
is being watered down instead of tightened up. All we ever hear about from
the news media is when the RIM servers have a brief hiccup. I would love
it if all my messages went through the RIM servers where they would be

Once it goes cross patform later in the summer it will be an app on iPhone and Androids.

Seriously, the advantage to BBM is all the extra stuff you can do with it. Also, as far as texting goes, you know the message has been sent, you know when it appears on their phone, and you know when they have read it. It is the Rolls Royce of messaging services.

Cross-platforming sounds great. Bring it on
