No if your contact uses a picture, the picture will come up when you carry on a conversation with them.
Is that what you are asking?

There is a "Show Display Pictures in Chats" option under settings in BBM that can be toggled on or off, but I'm not sure that totally covers what you're looking for.

Well you can turn off the notification pop up for a bbm contact... But their pic will still show in the chat when you open it.
To do that, go to BBM, Contacts, long press a contact and select Hide chat previews.

Open BBM, hit the title bar at the top with your name and display picture. On the next screen, tap your display picture in the top right corner. Then hit the three-dots overflow menu, and tap on "Remove" at the bottom.

Yes. It seemed to be what you were asking about after the other suggestions did not work for you.

If you just want the pictures to be hidden within the chat, follow my earlier suggestion. If not, perhaps you could attach a screenshot demonstrating what you would like to accomplish.

You can remove your contact picture from the main screen that shows your name.

You cannot remove your friends' contact pictures from the title bar, that is up to them to decide if they want a contact picture or not.

What BravoZuluDelta said is true regarding the picture in the title bar of the chat, but if you want to disable the picture next to each message:

Open BBM
Pull down from the top bezel
Tap on settings (gear picture on the right)
Show Display Pictures in Chats should be the first option under Chats (Forth in the list)
Switch the toggle to Off
Each message should no longer contain the respective contact pic
