very new to this and not overly technical - just purchased a z10 here in nz (very rare!!) and I also have a Microsoft surface pro - with bb link downloaded... everytime I connect my phone to tablet to charge it within 5mins my tablet blue screens and has to restart!!! without bb connected I have never haf a problem.. is there a known issue between the 2??? thinking may need to return phone if I can not connect the two I soo wanted to love the blackberry as hate iphone any thughts appreciated as support in new Zealand very limited with blackberry

Do you have BlackBerry Link installed?

In any case, it's not a good idea to charge your phone with your tablet battery.

Why are you trying to charge it with a surface? I don't think it could supply enough power to charge it. It does sound like an issue for backups, transfers and what not too though even if not charging, which I don't think a surface would do, you'll still get the same result.

Have you contacted bbry or ms?

Edit: did the surface charge any other phone?

thank you - sounds like that is my problem charging/backing up to tablet - I guess its cos when travel I take tablet and just assumed I can charge phone on it as I do with laptop etc... my bad... I accept slow charge but didn't realise it would crash it... I am just assuming of course it is my bb causing it.. I get a something something " watchdog" error....

and yes I do have link installed and haven't contacted MS OR BB yet... tried here first

I had this issue with windows 8 on my laptop. However, I always apply Any new updates ( windows 8 and link). I haven't had this issue for a few months now. It seems one of the updates for either the Windows OS or link has resolved the issue

I wonder if it has anything to do with the surface having USB 3? Seems people had trouble with that on lappy's and pc's too.

Hmm don't know.. BlackBerry Link works fine on my Windows 8 Laptop... only thing is I can't log into BlackBerry ID.

I would say try with another computer and use the OEM charger always unless you really need otherwise!

That is appalling - a hardware 'stop' error just from a legitimate USB connection. I used to do Windows support back in the Win95/XP days, and it sounds like MS still don't bother beta-testing anything before release. Very glad I didn't buy a Windows Phone now.

In new Zealand wifi isn't great and or free!! eg. last week in an earthquake can't stay In Hotel room (that wifi costs alot) I need use phone to check on things.. bat dying as z10 is **** and can't charge on my tablet in my trusty big handbag..plug pack in hotel room I can't get to. that was my issue originally people. iPhone would charge on MS thought BlackBerry would b better. And yes I carry a usb cable big handbag has everything

my laptop is dell and has bb link and I charge from and it backups up no problem... it isn't windows 8 tho .. and yes I use the cable I got with the phone
