Revenue and profit are two seperate beasts. Revenue is all money coming in. Profit is revenue minus cost.

Having watched the mobile industry for over 6 years now, I've come to the conclusion that asking these questions like "how much will (device) cost?" Are irrelevant.

Think about it, all the prices are pretty much the same. Either it will be ridiculously priced like an iPhone which is $699+ for the base model, or it will be reasonably priced where people can buy them off contract at $499-$549. On contract prices are even less worth debating because it's either going to be $199-$299 on contract. $199 has become the defacto 3-year price (in Canada) for most high-end smartphones and anything at $299 gets nothing but rage from the mass consumer market.

Since the LG Nexus 4, people's expectations on smartphone prices have been skewed and what they don't realize is that Google is the except in this arena because they are selling so close to cost, to get you into their ecosystem and start using their services, which gets them more info on you and proliferates their ad business.

My guess: $199 on 3-year contract and $599 outright.

    Examples:

$600 for a new OS with midrange specs devices will mark the beginning of the end for RIM. Let's hope they are not that dumb

Give me $250-300 CAD more or less off contract with some accessories, or I will stay away. I think this is the same sentiment with many others around.

Whoever thinks it is gonna be under $400 off contract is insane! All new flagship phones are basically $199-299 with new 2-yr and about $500-800 full retail...heck even the 9930 is still $510 off contract today.

And for an established ecosystem like iOS or Android, that is a price consumers will pay. RIM needs to do what Nokia did with the 920. It is a flagship phone, has innovative features and is $99 on contract and, at least on AT&T, $450 off contract. That is how you move devices running an immature OS with an unproven ecosystem. There is a reason Nokia has over 50% market share of Windows Phone even though they were over a year late to the party. They recognized they couldn't ask iPhone or high end Android money and expect larges numbers of people to bite. Now, I don't think it will be under $400 off contract, but it needs to be under $500 if RIM wants to build market share. It may cut into their profits short term, but will build them a larger user base and that equals profits in the long term.

Bb, you guys need to lower the price of your new phone the z-10 to at least $399.00. I want to see you get back on top, the only way is to get new people on your team. Lowering the price will be a big boom! To bb and the world and i mean the world! If it is over priced, people will think you guys are making up your shorts by charging a higher price. This will sink your ship if it is higher and or the same price as the other smart phones, people will stick with what they have instead of changing over or an up-grade, although your phone is the "smater phone"!

A year from now maybe, when BlackBerry 11 is launched. But nope, not right now.

But what you can do is wait for someone to sell theirs. There will be someone that will not like it, no matter how good it is. Watch CB or eBay and pick one up for less.

    BB10 is unproven
Once it establishes itself, it can charge the same price as established platforms, until then RIM need to do everything to attract people to it, which includes making these devices as cheap as possible.

As inexpensive and possible, yes, but they cannot put it out there as a loss leader as many are suggesting.

So many delusions in this thread. Plan on spending just as much or even more than what we paid for the OS7 devises.

Thoughts to the contrary are pure fantasy.

Latest iPhone for the base model has been $649 for years now. Whether that price is ridiculous or not... well, maybe.

then they can expect to have the same fate as the OS7 devices.
doing precisely that will not help them. Blackberry need to learn humility, they cant act like kings of the world anymore.

i think you are right, but i hope you aren't.
ideally what i would do is release a mid to top end phone as cheaply as possible to introduce people to the platform, then release the flagship devices. i hope this is what they are doing with the L and N series and keeping the A series back.

but if the Z10 is the same price as the 9900 (450 in the uk off contract) then Blackberry are going to fail big time.

    550 yay
650 i think is too high
in the uk unless they get a cheaper version out soon then BB10 will not gain ground.
A lot of the UK bb users are teens with BB Curves. 650$ will price them right out

    Hi all.

I'm a long term bb user, and so far everything I have seennof bb10 is a massive step in the right direction, to getting RIM back to the top 4 brands.

The onlyn place they could fall down is on price. There us no way to compare the pricing of a device or brand like Apple iPhone5 to BB10 they are not in the same league, you may remember the Playbook. RIM tried to launch a basic tablet to the market, at a premium price causing it to get smashed by the Galaxy Tabs, iPads and Nexus' the olaybook 16gb now sells for 99

RIM must follow in Googles footsteps with the Nexus 4 (a phone which is taking the uk by storm) as its only 250 sim free - let's be honest, to the general public BB10 needs to capture these customers, they will NOT capture iOs owners so stay away from their proce point.

Please forgive the typos its 2am and a great example why I need a touchscreen with a larger, more accurate touch keyboard.

well just looked on rogers and telus website....the iphone 5 64gb off contract is at $899 and same with telus..very high..For the bold 9900 of today rogers is at $499. and telus is at $630. So if i go with those number of today..well then..still high..but still cheaper than iphone of today...would be nice not more than $500.

Prices of $299 or $399 are unrealistic, they need to actually make money on the hardware because they are not a google or amazon who are happy to sell stuff at cost due to most of their revenue coming from elsewhere.
