I updated to the newest Verizon 10.3.2 build when it came out OTA. My battery life stayed about the same as my 10.3.1 build for two days or so.

Then I turned on encryption for device and media card, and battery life went in the crapper. I knew it would be bad during the process of encrypting everything, but it never got any better once it finished.

Now that I have turned off encryption on both device and media card files, battery life is returning to normal.

I'm not sure if this will help anyone else, but I thought I should share.

Encryption does take a little more to process data. How much of a difference did you experience? What are you using to measure the difference? While idle, I don't think there should be a noticeable difference, but if you are playing music and watching movies then it will.

Encryption is intend to keep "personal" data private eg emails, documents that are on the device and SD Card. If you are using your phone as a multimedia device, I would recommend encrypting only the device and moving your media to an unencrypted SD card. This way your emails, documents and maybe even personal photos are encrypted (set the camera to use the internal memory)

If you must have encrypted data in both spaces, I would suggest a file/folder encryption app such as file locker? (I forget the actual name...)

Still, it would be interesting to know how you use your device so we can understand the difference as big as you imply.

Before turning on encryption. I was getting 12 to 18 hours of life out of a full charge. With encryption, it was more like 6 hours. I didn't watch or even use much of the content on my media card.

Since I turned it off, I'm getting a average drain rate of between 3 to 6 percent per hour.

I'm wondering if it's possible to take out the sd card then encrypt the phone then put the card back in.

I'm not using encryption. Still my z10 battery life sucks. The problem started with first 10.3 update . Usually it lasts for 6 - 12 hours for less than normal use.
Surprisingly, many times it has lasted for 20 hours. But that is only when I'm lucky.
