Thought this might be of some use to people using old BlackBerry chargers with your Z10. This may be the issue some have with short battery life.

    Wouldn't it simply charge slower?

The charger you use doesn't effect your battery life, just how fast your device charges. Old low amperage chargers are fine to use, they will just take a little longer to charge that's all

Reaching out to BBRY for a little follow up here - the knowledge base article doesn't get into much detail.

It's just an amperage thing... lower amperage chargers will take a long time to charge. Don' t think it'll hurt anything so not something to panic about, but definitely better to be on newer higher amperage chargers. BlackBerry Premium Charger is always the way to go though!

Yes. And if you are using it when charging, it may consume more battery than it is charging.
I don't see how this would impact "poor battery life".
And if you have old chargers less than 750 mA you should toss them.

well I dont buy the argument ... the orignal battery that comes with it is a 1,800mAh - so if I use a older charger like for lets say 700mah I only charge the battery at 0.38C ... If I was using a 1,800mah charger I would charge at 1C ... not sure if its a single cell or multi cell but still if multi it will balance the cells in between charging ... so the only thing that differs from a charging perspective is the time it takes for the battery to charge ... usually high currents und temperature differences cause a cell to decrease its performance more quickly ... so charging it at even less than 0.5C should do the cell well ..

Curious what BBRY has to say about it.

And I already use my PlayBook charger as my Z10's default charger, so I'm all good over here. Still want to know though...

I've always charged my phones at night, while I'm sleeping, so there's no hurry. I use an old Nokia 500 mAh charger precisely because it charges at a lower rate and therefore a lower temperature. Of I don't need it charged fast, I don't need to heat it up.

Is there any difference between the premium charger and the Playbook's regular charger? That's what I've been using at home thus far.

I don't buy this either. Many people charge thier phone using the computer and unless I am wrong, that output is typically about 500 ma/h. This is even lower than my 'older' blackberry chargers which are rated at output 700 ma/h. The device may not charge as fast, but it does charge.

Slow and steady is the way to go! I've always plugged my newer BBs into my old 7130E 500 mAh charger (using a micro usb adapter) for overnight charging.

That is 100% correct. In fact, slower charges produce less heat and over time, it's the heat cycling that kills the battery. A 500ma charger will take a much longer time, but an 1800 ma charger probably won't charge much faster than a 750ma, since the intelligence is built into the phone, not the charger, and the device is programed to charge at a specified rate. I have charged the phone using an 1800 and a 750...not much difference between the two, but if you're using it say for video and charging simultaneously, you would not see a slow down in the charge rate.

Not sure I'd encourage binning them.. recycling maybe.. or sticking them on eBay.. its amazing how many people will buy those as they lose them all the time. Plenty of OS7 and older devices out there

Over my ... lol... blackberry owner career... I've collected a ton of chargers...in fact, I have em stashed in many various plus throughout the house.

Generally speaking though, I do the main charge over night while sleeping, it's always full when I wake up, I'm wondering though, if there is a difference between the actual charge time, or the "quality" of the charge. I'm no electrician so I will ask this potentionally dumb question

I don't think it's a dumb question. I use my Bold 9930 700ma charger over night and it's done just fine the last few weeks & I'm one who has been consistently getting 8 or more hours on one charge.

I just use my PlayBook charger if I'm in a rush. If I'm charging overnight I use my Bold 9700 charger.

Didn't Thor make a joke about how BlackBerry 10 would continue to use micro USB chargers? (As a shot at Apple and their new Lightning chargers)
