And it's amazingly simple, drag the focus to a dark spot! See the difference in the photos attached, flash was turned off.

    This works great..

I think you could also change it to white board, would have a similar effect.

It seems to go by colour not brightness. I tried focusing on two objects, one black one bright yellow with the same results.

You see. There had to be a logical explanation for this. Some little software fix or something.

Here's an example, first picture is focusing on the face and on the second focusing on the trousers.

Yes, that's how all modern camera phones work. I'm not sure how this would improve low light performance though?

I'm not sure what part of it you don't get, with the Z10 you can drag the focus point around the screen, a quick drag to a dark hair instead of the face for example will improve the lo light A Lot.

Thanks BD! I knew that it would be something simple! Now if the Z10 (when I get it) could only compensate for my deplorable lack of photographic skills!

Sorry I keep quoting you, it's to get the attachment button on the mobile site

Here's a more extreme example, first is focusing on the blinds, second focusing on the top of the sofa.

Right, I'm not disputing that. I'm sure people who didn't know this will find your thread helpful. I'm just saying that it's not going to help in low light where you don't have a high contrast like you do in the above pictures.

All photos were taken in a room with the blinds almost closed, no room light and no flash.

I said many times settings are your friemds. This not a bug??? As you can tell by compliants alot of noobs on camera settings who seem to be just point and shoot basics.I think BB will have to patch this up next update so camera does it automatically instead of this weird find. This way point and shoot folks can quite down and be happy.

This needs to be put on crackberry front page and kevin needs to redo the camera quality and pic taking.I wonder what else is done in reverse to get a good shot

What would happen if you straddle a light/dark boundary with the focus point?

Why would you do that? You can drag and drop the focus point on either side, that's the beauty of it.
