Is there such a thing? Or is this a legacy of BIS? I was wondering if this is something my service provider (Vodafone UK) has to actively turn on to make my device work properly and if so, how can I tell if it's been turned on.

    Thanks!

Just put a sim card with an active data plan in and off you go. That simple.

    Thanks Diegonei,

Should my service provider have provided me with such a sim? I don't understand why I would have been provided with something that doesn't allow proper data services.

Well it all depends. Did you buy it online, in a store, sim free, on contract....

Depending on which phone you had previously, you may already have a proper sim card. And a data plan. Or not.

The Z10 has this micro sim card, so I couldn't transfer my old Torch one. It was bought on a contract in a store (Carphone Warehouse).

    I'll ask Vodafone - thanks!

Yes, the one I had on my 9780 also didn't fit the Z10, so I too had to go to my carrier and ask (pay) for a new SIM and the transfer of my line.

If you got the phone on a NEW contract, you shoulf have been provided with a SIM. I'd ask CarphoneWarehouse first.

Thanks. I was confused as Blackberry Help initially told me (earlier today) that my pin did not have any active data service attached. They later found that it did. I've been trying to resolve data drop outs and calendar posting delays and thought we'd stumbled upon the reason. Back to the drawing board...
