I'm about to purchase a 64GB MicroSD card for my Z10.

I know I have to format it in the device to use it etc. But what I'm not clear on is which cards will work.

    MicroSDHC?
    MicroSDXC?

Both of these are Class 10... but will either work?

If they both will work... is one better / faster than the other?

Z10 user here, I have the micro SDXC and it runs pretty well, blazing fast too. You'll just have to format it once and then you'll be good to go.

Class 10 highly recommended. Slow cards are known to give trouble. SDHC cards (up to 32gb) work. SDXC of 64gb capacity are known to work fine.

Make sure you format the card in the Z10 using settings/storage and access/format media card before using.

I'm not totally sure there's actually such a thing as a 64GB SDHC. Even if it's labeled that way, I think they're all SDXC.

One piece of advice: don't cheap out on this. People have reported issues with cheap cards and I have a sneaking suspicion that they might contribute to spontaneous reboots.

Yeah I have no intention to cheap out on this... I just want to make sure I don't get the best of the best then find out it is "too new" and won't work. :-P

Sandisk is a good brand from what I know.

ya know what though I have not even filled up my 2GB Kingston card yet, so no need for me to buy a 64gb card unless one is on a good selling price.

Futureshop and BestBuy have Sandisk SDXC 64GB for $60. IMO less than a buck for a GB is a good price.

I second the kudos for the SDXC.

I'm using a SanDisk 64Gb class 10 and it formatted to 59.3 Gigs.

Picked it up at Best Buy to ensure I got an authentic one.

Too many pirate clones at local computer stores or online.

My buddy picked up a 32 Gb SanDisk labeled clone at a local bazaar vendor in an unmarked package at a bargain price. The unit itself looked legit. but had a bunch of sector failures and loss of data. While labeled as a Class 10, the throughput was abysmal and closer to that of a Class 4.

With so much data loss possible on such a large card, be careful on what you buy.

Either should work fine, the name difference has to do with overall capacity of the SD card,

SDHC - High capacity (up to 32gb in most cases)
SDXC- Xtended capacity for larger SD cards

With a 64gb card, you should see anywhere from 57.6- 58.3 +/- of usable storage after the format is complete.

It should, but this should help break it down better for ya-

Secure Digital - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

SDHC only goes up to 32GB

SDXC starts at 32gb and will go up to 2TB in the future. Being you have purchased a 64gb, its safe to say you have a SDXC on the way.
