Default 3G Connectivity on Unlocked Phone

I can only imagine this is the right board for this. I just got an unlocked phone and am now on the Rogers network, and I was wondering if unlocked phones can connect to 3G. I can't seem to get out of EDGE.

Is there a different APN or something?

No, the radio frequencies are different on some devices.
That's why you only have EDGE.

You have to make sure the frequencies match the ones your network uses.

They can, but the phone needs to operate on the same bands as the network you're using it on.

You most likely have a phone that is incompatible with Roger's 3G network. What carrier is your phone from?

Yea, you will only ever get EDGE.

If you'd put it on Wind then you could get 3G...

Well, good thing like every third building has free WiFi. At least I have basic coverage where I need it.
