Question Will the Tour 9630 Work in the UK?

Hi,

I'm planning on buying an Verzion GSM Unlocked Tour 9630 from the US as their near the same as the 9700 but at the fraction of the price. I'm currently on a Sim-only contract with 3 UK and seeing as 3 sims are fairly new, I was wondering seeing as the phone is unlocked, can I just pop my 3 UK sim into the 9630 and all features will work? Such as 3G, BBM, BlackBerry Internet service etc.

Any help is appreciated,

Thanks!

The Verizion 9630 is a CDMA phone, not a GSM. Not sure about your question though, sorry

Yes it will work, since it supports European GSM/UMTS bands

Yes, I agree with Culex, that's a World phone and will work in the UK. I did a similar thing with an unlocked 8830 - it worked in the UK for email and text at least. The SIM plan I had was limited to that I think (either that or it would have eaten up too much to use it for web access so I didn't do it). But it worked fine as a communicator to use to call the US cheaply and make local UK calls, in addition to email and texts.

It will work. You might not get 3G though, I'm not sure.

Yes it will work but to get the services you will need to update the service book on your Blackberry (call your carrier and ask them to send an update to you) after unlocking it.

the networks in europe are supporting the services so it will be ok.

I have the phone now it works fine other than I cant use any blackberry services e.g. bb messenger etc. My carrier "3 UK" will not provide me with the service books as they do not support the 9630 but they will send them if I have a 9700 as they support it, if I were to ask for the 9700 service book can it damage my 9630?

Or if someone were to give me the APN for 3 UK would this work?

Thanks.

Try the 9700 Service Books. They won't damage the device. The worst that will happen is that you will be in the same situation that you are in now.

I cannot reach my provider at this time, is there anywhere I can download a service book manually?

You will have to get it from them.

Alternately, get a 9700 that they support natively.

The Tour (as well as the 9650) pick up 3G in the UK

hey newbie,
i live in london now, came here via milan. my 9360 works fine... after much trouble. i am on orange here as 02 and some other companies won't supposed the bbm via the 9360. while i was in milan, i found a blackberry tech guy who sorted my phone out, which took roughly 7 people prior to him. so, yes it will work.
