I am, i got my storm last december, i absolutely hate it. And it seems the only way to get around paying full retail price is to add a 2nd line for 9.99 from verizon, small price to pay to get the best blackberry out there and to get rid of this ******* touchscreen.

9.99 plus $30 for data plan you mean.

Adding another line will cost you $240 over the next 2yrs plus taxes so probably closer to $300.
Plus the cost of the phone, $199, you're looking at spending $440-500 over the next 2yrs for the Tour. So you're basically spending the same amount. Just delayed like you used a credit card instead of cash.

adding that bb bis or bes is mandatory thats another $30 per month unless you have something other than the Storm to switch to the second line.

Help me understand if this is possible:

    - Add new line with Tour
    - Swap ESNs to have Tour with Storm #
    - Buy cheap "dumb" phone to replace Storm line (now the new #)
    - Sell Storm

Then I will have the Tour + 9.99 additional line on a dumb phone. Make sense? Will this in any way cause me to have to pay an ETF for the Storm and would it be free to sell?

ETF will be cheaper than paying $10 for a second line for 24 months.

If you do it with in 30 days there will be no ETF on the second line. But if you don't return the Tour to them with that second line they will charge you full MSRP for the Tour.

Same as the first Line $175 cause you are in a 2 yr contract with the second line.

I've posted this a few times. It works out to $415 if you add a another line ($10), buy the Tour at 2-yr contract ($200), switch numbers/ESN to get the Tour on your original phone number, keep the line for 31 days ($30 for 1-mo of data plan), cancel the additional line ($175 ETF). This is versus the $489 retail price. Selling the Storm is an option, and one I am pursuing to help offset the cost.

what's being missed here is the whole picture.
Go to a corp store with an old vzw phone, I used a razr, when you leave the razr will be assigned to the new line and the tour will be assigned to your primary phone #.
Only 1 BB is being used, so only 1 BB plan is needed.
Use the tour for 30 days, if you like it, cut the box and send in for the rebate, then sell your storm for $200 on ebay or craigslist, cancel the added line for the $170 etf, (-5 per month on ETF).

that would cost me 175+30+10=215 and id get a tour..better then retail if u ask me
Don't forget the cost of the phone itself. So, $215 + $199 (2-yr) = $415. That's versus $489. Still cheaper, not considerably, but enough for me at least to take advantage of.

So you are saying I should get a second line with Tour, switch numbers with Storm, cancel line with Storm, pay ETF, sell Storm? I guess that makes sense and could almost break even by selling the Storm.

That's what I'm figuring is the best way to go. In essence, you need to sell the Storm to at least overcome the ETF and 1-mo of service ($40 for extra line and data services), or around $210, to "break even" or be equivalent to signing up as a new customer for a 2-yr contract.

You might pay almost as much as retail by using the add a line and cancel after the contract is up but you are spreading out the payments.

Me personally I will be adding another line to get the Tour but I will be keeping it and putting my Treo 700wx or my Chocolate on it. Also I might keep it because I actually do want another line so it works out.

Also this is assuming that you are on a family plan? In the title you state about adding a 2nd line. But for it to be $9.99 a month you must have 2 phones on a family plan and add a 3rd for $9.99 a month

    Correct......

but they pro-rate them now....so if you are 8 months into a contract, you may only owe 125.00 for ETF.....
I was going to cancel verizon and switch to att because of problems I had with my q9c replacements and this was in April. Contract ran until August, and they told me each line had an ETF of 85.00

data is prorated for the time you use it. Just throw an normal VZW phone on there after. Or you could cancel for $200 vs keeping the phone active for 24 months for $240.

I can sell my curve to cover the ETF and 1 month of service. And save a few $$ going to best buy.

U can get the Tour on a second line. Then go buy a cheap phone and put your Tour on primary and second line on cheap phone. They have a plan that is $20 a month for 50 minutes. I wont be using the new line anyway.

If you ask enough VZW Reps I'm sure you can find one that will sell you the Tour for the NE1 price of $260 that is the way to go. They tried to push the 2nd line on me, but it would have cost me more than paying retail because I would have had to go from 450 minute plan to a family plan, which was $20 - $30 more a month.
