When Tour arrives in mail how to Activate

When my Tour arrives via Mail, do I call VZ and they will walk me thru activation or do I do it online some way. Or do I take it to the VZ store for activation?

You could dial *228 and then choose option 3. Then enter your phone number and your account passcode and it should switch it over.

in myverizon online, there's a sidebar option "activate new device" and fill in the info from there, then dial *228 from the device

Yes, it will ask you to enter the order number from your receipt that comes with your Tour.

what about if im on a family plan and buy it on one line and want to activate it on another? do i *228 and then use the ESN changer or can I just activate it on the line without doing that?

You could...

1. Call VZW and have them activate it because they would need your ESN in the system before you can *228.

2. Do it online in your account. Once you fill out the info, specifically your ESN, then *228. If that fails, you could manually program it by ##000000+(return key) put your MDN, MIN, and SID in if you know it.

Check your old Berry or phone to get the MIN and SID if you don't wanna go through the IVR.


3. Retail.

You would activate it on the line that you bought it under, add the BB email/data plan if needed.

Then, use the online ESN changer to put back the phone that was originally on that line. The BB email data plan if added will drop off if the original phone was a non-smartphone. Then use the online ESN changer to switch the Tour to your line.

the phone will come with instructions how to activate the Tour through the phone if you are on Verizon. It takes just a couple minutes if not less to do it by phone, and its very very easy to do.

Turn off old phone then dial *228 option 3 and it will walk you through activating. If switching from another BB you will have to hit the BIS and change pins.
