Can someone explain what that is? Maybe like the "youmail" software perhaps?

It is Verizon's version of Visual Voicemail. It is a lot like youmail and it costs more.

Visual Voicemail?

someone leaves a voicemail. The voicemail gets translated to text and sent to your phone. Easy way to read your voicemails when you can't listen to them. Similar to youmail. costs like $3 or something like that.

It's more like what the poster above you described. You can view the voicemails and listen to them without dialing into your voicemail. It appears on the device in a list as if it was a media playlist or some emails you received.

I use youmail and I love it. I the app on my 8330 and it works great. I usually don't leave it running because it is a battery hog.

What I do:

I have a specific Blackberry email account that youmail sends a message to when I get a new voicemail. This allows for a separate alert tone so I know it is a voicemail. I can then either click on the link in the email and listen to the new voicemail or I can open the app and let it download and play.

Youmail will also let you create special greetings for friends, family, clients, etc. So everyone feels special and important. You can also block callers from leaving you voicmail too. You can put in specific number or even just unknown numbers and block them from leaving you messages.

Example:
I started getting prank phone calls from an unkown number a while back. They were coming in at 2 or 3 in the morning and it really bothered me. Then they would leave me really rude voicemails. I chose to block unknown numbers and selected a greeting that was a recording of Verizon's disconnection message saying that the phone was no longer in service. I only got 2 phone calls after that.

I do, and wouldn't dream of giving it up. Use with VyMail to provide a GUI on the phone similar to Verizon Visual Voicemail. YouMail offers a lot more functionality than VVM does - custom greetings per caller (or phone number), etc.

youmail rocks. other than being able to listen to mail in the order you want, it also doesn't use your minutes when you listen to it like vzw does when you call your own VM

WOW. can you do this with restricted numbers too? i have a restricted caller who always calls several times in the middle of the night and occasionally leaves me really perverted, disturbing voicemails.
