Verizon's new trackball and screen ripple fixes....Kinda funny
- So i called Verizon this afternoon to get a replacement sent to my house for a new Tour. Mine was fine till about a week ago then the trackball started going the opposite direction. I.e.- move left, cursor goes right and vice versa. I was also getting horrible screen ripple when clicking the trackball or top 4 keys.
SOOO i called Verizon explained my problems and the woman instructed me to dial *228 to update my roaming capabilities. I was thinking what's this got to do with screen ripple and tackball issues. But i appeased her and tried it. Guess what. Didn't work so I called back.
This time I get a guy, he asks my problems. I explain. He asked what have i done to try to fix it. I tell him adjusted the trackball sensitivity and the *228 update. He said ok there are 2 more things we need you to try but you can't be on your phone. I was driving home on my phone so i explained that I couldn't and asked what the fixes were and i'd try when i get home. His answer was a battery pull while the phone was running. And if that didn't work a Wipe through the options menu, and resending service books. I explained that i do battery pulls atleast every few days. And I did the wipe last night (I couldn't get the .142 leak to load and tried wiping and doing again then gave up) Well he finally said they have no refurbished phones in stock so they would be sending me a Brand New phone.
I just thought it was odd that they told me a roaming capabilty update, battery pull, and a phone wipe would fix a trackball issue and screen ripple.
But I got a new phone on the way!!!09-11-09 07:52 PMLike 0 - 09-11-09 07:55 PMLike 0

- Has anyone else had the same problems with the Trackball as jimmysvt stated? I've had my Tour since it came out... and it's been doing the same thing. Makes me pretty upset at times, but I just figured it was something I had to deal with.... Maybe I actually should get a replacement!09-11-09 10:04 PMLike 0

- Is this true? I called last night to get a replacement, he said the first warehouse had none left in stock, and checked another warehouse and he said they had some there. It sounded like it was refurbished though since it doesn't come with any accessories or the battery. I'll find out when I get it.09-12-09 12:07 PMLike 0
- I just got my 3rd Tour fresh out the box and im outside my 30days. Normally i call 1800 number have them note the account and then go into the store. Ive heard all the stupid things like wiping device, battery pull, blah blah blah...if it doesnt really work take it to the store let them play with it.09-12-09 01:09 PMLike 0
- Hey man congrats on the new phone. Just wanted to let you guys know we have a list of things we have to do to try and fix the issues before sending out a new phone. Its the rules at VZW a csr rep cant transfer to tech support until after the mini issues have been canceled out. You would be surprised how many calls come in about people who dont hear a dial tone, there phone isnt on and they cant make a call. The steps are to resolve those kinds of issues. Sorry you had to go through all you did but at least you got taken care of. In the future take your device to the store. If they troubleshoot it and remark your account you can call into CS and they can order you a new phone.09-12-09 01:33 PMLike 0
- Are there still dud units shipping, defined as screen ripple in the lower corners, esp on a dark background? And trackball issues? I thought all units after August 15, a month ago now, were free of these issues?09-12-09 01:53 PMLike 0
- thats what i heard initially and im really hoping thats the case. It seems more and more people are finding problems with new tours too09-12-09 02:32 PMLike 0
- This thread made me finally call in and try my luck...my trackball has been getting worse and worse since I got it in July. I went right to Tech support on the phone menu, and no waiting for a tech guy! Told him my issue, mentioned CB and the things I've tried...only thing he asked me to try was zipping back and forth over the trackball, 'to dislodge dust', supposedly a 'fix' from RIM. Then he hooked my up with another phone, no prob! I don't know if it's new or refurb'd (didn't ask), just that it doesn't come with a battery. It'll be here Tuesday! Here's to hoping09-12-09 03:29 PMLike 0
- I have a question. I bought an unlocked Verizon Tour off eBay which has a clean ESN but has this annoying trackball issue. Will Verizon still repair/replace the phone or what else is my best option?09-12-09 04:18 PMLike 0

- There new. I went into the verizon store last wednesday. Told them i had a trackball problem and the guy just looked at me and went to his desk without even looking or testing my phone. Ten minutes later he tells me alright new one will be sent to you in two days. Just the phone, no accesories but its brand new. IT was funny i was telling him how i was at the store on the 12th and the first one to get it and he remembered haha and im the first one in my store to complain about the track ball.
I was worried about the Invisible Shield that I had paid 40 bucks for, but all I had to do was tear it off and bring it to the Invisible Shield girl at the mall and pay $5. Bottom line is that now I have a Tour with a working trackball and got it re-protected for just $5. I am finally totally happy with the phone!09-13-09 12:21 AMLike 0 - Is this true?
