trackball replacement
I have looked through some threads and cant seem to find a similar situation.
I was thinking about replacing the trackball on my phone becuase it doesnt scroll up; the ball isnt stuck, and there is no dirt under it, just stopped working a few weeks ago. Initially nothing worked, now it moves right, left, and down. I tried holding the ball down and scrolling up like some threads say but nothing happens, since the ball itself can move up i know its not dirt stuck under it, seems like some type of sensor issue or something, are there any other things I can try, would a replacement trackball fix this issue? Thanks in advance. - 06-14-2011, 01:33 PM #2
If it were me I would take it to my friendly carrier store and let their tech take a look at it. If it is something simple, they'll fix it for free, if it is something more, they'll tell you the problem and recommend a solution. I took my old 8330 in there a while back and asked them to clean the trackball and they replaced it with a new one . . . FREE!

Under each trackball are 4 small wheels with magnets. As the ball rolls each wheel on various sides of the ball move. The small wheel which controls UP movement for your BB probably has debris build up. It doesnt take much. Unfortunately you have a BB that is harder to replace the trackball.
If its under warranty take it to a store. If not find a cheap tech shop to take it apart for you.

I have had this same issue numerous times with my tour. Love the phone, but this can be extremely frustrating. IAmSixNine is correct. There is probably some debris gathered underneath. There is a method that seems to work in which you take a small strip of paper and slide it underneath the ball. It has worked for me every time. Here is the link to the post:

I think you'll be surprised how much dust you pull out the first time you try it. - 06-25-2011, 07:28 PM #5
