Trackball issues: Hardware or Software?

I've recently been experiencing problems with my trackball not scrolling down. I thought it might be a low memory issue so I removed unused apps but it persisted so I wiped device and after that it has continued to occur. Sometimes ir works fine but freezes a lot more often than not
Any ideas what root cause might be ?

Lay phone flat down on sheet of paper face down and move side to side,up and down. This has dislodged debris in mine several times until I changed trackball. You'll be surprised how much crud collects in there.

Yeah this is definitely a hardware issue, not software. The tip posted above works pretty well, but if you are still having problems try this forum: http://forums.crackberry.com/f141/my...od-new-424260/ This works like a charm for me.
