i dont know the answer to your question, but my thoughts on the matter are that telus is the 15th, and sprint was rumored for that week as well (though i think it's the following week now?), so maybe verizon wanted to make sure they were the first to release it -- and doing so on a sunday, though out of the ordinary, would make it the first carrier to offer the device.
I know that Verizon and Sprint both have released phones on a Sunday before. I believe the Samsung Ace (on Sprint) was released on a Sunday. I'm not sure as to specifics on Verizon, but I know it has been done.
