Start Up Issues

So last night my battery went completely dead. Today, I have been researching a lot and done almost everything. Now however, when I plug my phone into a charger, a blank battery symbol with a lightning bolt comes on. When I try to turn my phone on, an hour glass comes on, then it goes to the loading screen, where it loads about a quarter of the way then shuts off. I am thinking that this is just because the battery is so dead, but I wanted your opinions as well.
