I got my 9630 14 days ago for Verizon. I have it set to delete messages every 15 days. I close all apps. Certain contacts who I have longer histories with take 4-5 seconds to open. When I hit R to respond, I don't have a lag, but the lag comes back when I hit send. I don't have this issue with contacts who I do not have a long history with. I turned disabled Content Compression, used QuickPull, restarted several times over the past week. Nothing has helped my lag. I haven't reached the 15 day mark where all my messages erase. I just think it shouldn't have a lag for certain contacts if it's able to hold messages "forever." It's annoying to sit there and wait for the SMS to open for about 4-5 seconds after I select it. I realize I can just delete my history with that contact, and that SHOULD eliminate the lag, but I was wondering if there's anything else that's possible. Also, I don't have this lag with MMS from these contacts.

    Thank you.

I just starting getting lags while sending messages sms & email too. have seen a couple of threads about but didn't read to much since I wasn't (at that time) having an issue. I'm guessing its an OS issue and should be fixed with the next release.

Do you have a much longer history with a few contacts than others? I have two or three contacts with significantly longer history, and these are the SMS messages that have the lag for me.

Have you tried deleting all your messages or the history with those contacts? I want to know if this helps.

I haven't had this issue on my tour but did have it with my curve. I deleted the contacts I was having the issue with from my address book then re-entered them and that solved the problem for me. You may want to try that to see if it fixes it for you.

I'm going to take it to the Verizon store and see if they replace it for me. I feel like my track ball is acting up a bit too so maybe they'll just give me a new one.

There is enough app memory where you shouldn't have to delete any app's it has to be your phone or an OS issue. The only reason the app's would be doing this is if you have to many open at once.

If I get a replacement, will I be able to load the data that I have backed up on my Desktop Manager onto my new BB, or do I have to have both BB's to do that?

Make sure before you turn your phone sync and do a back up. You can back up your third party app's too here is a link on how to do that.

For some reason I can't attach the link so just do a search "back up 3rd party apps"

I am on a 8900 but I'm having the exact same issue I've tried everything I feel like! I just deleted the contact and re-entered them into the address book and that didn't work either! If someone knows anything about this some help would be greatly appreciated lol!

I've had the exact same problem on my 8330 and now on my 9630. It takes more messages to become a problem on the 9630, but it's still there. Now, to be fair, I'm talking about messages in the thousands and close to the tens of thousands, but still. What I normally did was just use the "Delete Prior" function in both my SMS Inbox and Outbox. While this isn't the most preferred solution, I've found that it at least works. To do this, go to a date heading in your SMS Inbox/Outbox, click the BB button, and then scroll up to "Delete Prior." Do the same thing for the other box and you'll be good to go, at least in my experience.

I've experienced this same issue as well.
I deleted the contact, re-added, and no change (as the # still maintains history, whether or not they are in your address book).
The issue was resolved once I switched to OS 5.0.

I have one user that is 90% of my txt messages, at least 30 a day, it can take up to 15 seconds to open a message from, or send a message to that person. Hoping an OS update fixes it.

I am shocked no one has posted the solution. The lag is from loading all of those prior messages from that one specific contact. Go into sms options and change the 'number of prior items' to a low number, 5 or 10, and see how that helps.
