Default Replacing camera lens

So my anti-reflective coating on my camera lens got scratched and it now affects my pics. So, I want to replace it. I went and got the piece I need, according to the repair website I got it from. It's not the whole backplate though, it's JUST the little, non-rubberized section that has the camera lens on it. I'm assuming that back plate doesn't come apart, and from the looks of it (I have a skin on my phone now, so I can't really tell) that section should "pop" off somehow so I can re-attach the new one. Since I have never done this before, I just wanted to see if anyone else had done it, I was wondering if there's anything I should know to be careful of or anything before I went ahead and changed it.

This is the part I got:

From this site:
PDA Repair World - A full line of RIM BlackBerry repair services and BlackBerry parts for all BlackBerry handheld devices

Thank you in advance for any info or advice!

You can use your fingernail to pop it off, but sad to say the lens piece stays in. Will post pics soon.

heres the pics. your piece i have shining in the light to show the hole, and one of the housing with the lens off plus the piece you ordered. the lens is connected to the housing using the glue tape they use. i went through this cause if you notice i have a static in my pics, replaced the housing to the camera itself to the same effect. cant tell where its coming from.

Crud, that sucks that the lens is attached to the phone and not to that piece. Oh well, I guess when I get it in the mail, I'll have to return it. I don't need that piece, just a new lens. Grr. But thanks for your help and the heads up. I appreciate it!

Cool camera lens anti reflective coating problem

Hey guys, just found this thread- I have the same problem, and am looking for any suggestions. Maybe remove the anti reflective coating? I'd love to change out the lens with a new one, but is it even possible?

Thanks!

I know 4 friends that ditched their blackberries due to scratched lens/ reflective coating coming off. It completely ruins the camera! Ive gone through 5 tours and now 3 bold 9650's because of it. Every 3 months I just bring it in and exchange it for a brand new one since I have the insurance. It gets annoying after a while.

creep138:
My dog put his tooth about 1/16" of an inch into the flash opening. My pics are okay except with the flash. If I pry up the protective cover, what does is take to reattach? (like to know before I break the bond of removing and checking how deep the damage is)

Outch good reason to use a case with a protective cover over the camera. It might reduce the effectivness of the flash but at least you can still use it.

You can always re- attach using nothing. I put a bold protective cover on mine.

I'm using an otterbox case on mine. The only problem is the protect film layer thats directly over the camera tends to get dirty and causes a bad flash glare problem.

Here is a website selling oem cameras for the 9650

Authentic Original OEM RIM Blackberry Bold 9650 Camera [9650] - $5.99 : Phones N Parts

I have had these phones completely apart multiple times as well as the 9630's but one thing I failed to try was to remove the camera. So with that said, this may pop in and out to be replaced. I may attempt it on an old phone and see if it is successful before I attempt it on the one that I am using. Not sure if anyone else has ever done it because I havent come across any topics about it except a bunch of dissappointed people over the anti-reflective coating...oh and did I mention alot are becoming scratched because people are using their shirts which can hold dust which is ultimately like sandpaper!!! You must use a lens cloth at all times and start by blowing it off with a swift force of air. Good luck and ill let you know what I can figure out.
