Default OH NO!-my second Tour's screen is shutting off again:

My first TOUR's screen would periodically and randomly go blank, and the whole unit would reboot.

I returned that one and now my new one just started doing the same thing! Sometimes it will completely go white but quickly go back to the home screen. Or, it will just shut down and restart on its own.

This is ridiculous for a new unit.

Is this a software or hardware issue?

Is anyone else experiencing this?

If it's your second Tour doing this, then it's less likely that a hardware issue is responsible (not impossible, but less likely). Did you restore your Tour with a backup? If so, one of your apps could be the reason why it is restarting. Do a complete wipe, do not install any apps and see whether it is working OK. If it does, do an app by app installation, checking the phone status after every install (that way you may find the culprit).

IT IS DEFINETLY A SOFTWARE ISSUE. Replacing your phone would be a waste and useless.

Like every else said, it's most likely software and one of your apps is causing the problem. Don't do a restore, install them each one by one and see which one is causing the problem.

True, but it'd be cool to not have to reinstall the OS
(totally devil's advocate here)

I agree sounds like it could be an app that you are using and when you restored it, it must have moved it over. Not likely that its doing the same thing and its a phone issue(not impossible) but not likely.

This is my opinion and in no way reflects the opinion of Verizon Wireless or its affiliates. Do not consider talking to me a substitute to actually talking to a Verizon representitive, because I often lie. I find it very sad and pathetic that anyone would actually read this far... And to anyone who reads this and thinks its dumb a big middle finger to you.

I'm willing to bet that 9 out of 10 random rebooting, white screen, or otherwise misbehaving antics are caused by some third-party software that was loaded on. Not saying that is the OP's issue here (although I suspect it is).

It's the same with BB's as it is with a PC. "Oh, this Dell laptop I bought is junk!" No, it's probably not. It's probably that crappy freeware you downloaded from some unknown site and installed that's now wreaking havoc on your OS. It's the same thing with these phones. Anybody with a computer and an SDK and a community college course in basic programming can build a piece of software for a mobile phone. Doesn't mean it's going to work right and when it doesn't, don't blame the phone or the phone's OS.

Well, I do have a number of APPS:
WSJ
Google Maps
Poynt
Pandora
Slacker radio

However, the first Tour I had ONLY had Wall Street Journal on it. Does anyone else have problems with WSJ?

Default Blackberry shut down

The Blackberry Tour 9630 that I own, use to shut down periodically on its own. Could not figure out why. I noticed that the battery compartment was very warm after each shut down. Went to the a service provider store and they did not find any operational problems with the phone. They also got the phone to shut down by performing a website search.

The store agent noticed that my battery was not completely flat, she suggested to replace the battery. Since the battery has been replaced, the phone no longer shuts down and no longer reboots itself.
