Welcome to CrackBerry and BB world.
Lots of information and answers to be found in Blackberry 101 in the help forum. Or others will chime in to lend answers and advice.
QuickPull allows scheduling a soft reset. Mine is set for every morning at 3AM so all is ready to go by work time. Love the app. Means I can leave my handheld turned on all the time.
In addition a hard reset (battery pull) is useful on some regular basis (like once or twice a month). BB's are electronic devices which benefit from being shut down fully on occasions.

Welcome to BB my friend turning the phone off doesn't do much you need to pull battery to restore lost memory and clear out some function that may still be running in backround that you don't want running etc..
