I recently owned the curve 8530 and liked the setting to make the messages appear in bubble format rather then line separated. The Tour that i have now does not have that option. Does anyone know if it exists due to an OS upgrade, or anyway else i can get sms to display in bubbles? Thanks

There are 498 different kinds of "messages." WHAT are you talking about?

I believe he is talking about SMS texts, and yes its available in the current 4.7 OS, but if you upgrade to the new Tour 5.0.419 OS it is available in that, and very nice indeed!

I believe the new Curves (8530) have 5.0 OS already installed so that's probably why you saw that.

Donald, you said if i upgrade to OS 5 it should have it, but on the blackberry site, they only have two versions, 4.7.1.77 and 4.7.1.110. My tour currently has 4.7.1.57. do either of those 2 mentioned updates include the bubble messaging feature?

5.0 is an unofficial OS for the Tour. I personally don't know the upgrade process because I've never done it myself. But it's more complicated that just "How do I...?"

i know how to upgrade the software using the desktop manager since i have done it before with my old pearl. But since this version is unofficial, will the desktop software pick up the 5 and load?

IF you are talking about BBM's then this is an option of 5.0 BBM's. if not then it might be in the 5.0 OS for other messages.

there are guides to updating to 5.0, it really isnt hard. install the os, remove rim internal tools, delete vendor.xml(yeah not really needed), backup, wipe, run load.exe, restore.
i have done it a few times now, not hard at all.

your sms on the tour isnt threaded so why would there be an option for that?

The newest Tour leak .419 has the bubbles/lines option in Options - SMS Text. And it's threaded.

well i have uninstalled 4.7, restarted, installed 5, deleted vendor and desktop software find 5 but when i click next, it says no software update needed. any answers?

here's an easy guide..

Wipe your phone using JL commander or bbsak (after backing your stuff up in dm)

Install the os 5.0 that you downloaded ( launch the exe )

Go to the folder where it was installed, I don't remember off the top of my head, it's late - delete the vendor.xml- and click loader.exe

click a bunch of next's and let it install, and be patient.

After it is successful, the first reboot could take quite some time. Be patient. If you need help just post!

What's the difference between bubbles and lines?

I have the option on my Tour running .230 but it doesn't make a difference when I select either one.

cat anyone tell me how and why you delete the vendor.xml file? i loaded .419 on my tour the other, and didnt delete this file, but the OS works fine, only problem is sometimes i get a lag and stuck on a black screen for a few seconds once the screen has dimmed and i am coming back into the OS from idle.

shackerberry, thank you for the install instructions, but no luck. I know i'm doing it correct. it just finishes the install of 5. i delete the vendor, launch loader.exe from the common files > research in motion and.......... nothing. Guess i'll give up for now until they make it an official release. thanks for all your help

well... after formatting my computer for other reasons, it worked! Phone is so much faster with 5. thanks again people!!!
